New program--what will it do?

Reg/servo is the name of the program. I downloaded it because Microsoft said I needed it to get into a file I was trying involving a account with a company I have already. Shows lots of "errors" etc. I did register, but it still shows the errors, no fixes.

It's just a windows registry cleaner and most of us here do not recommend the use of such of a tool. They are in most cases more trouble than good. They seem to over clean a lot of needed entries and after a while the machine may stop working.

Uninstall it, the errors are false........

Tell us what file you're dealing with and the error reported.

Thought of the new plant thing, but none of the nurseries close to home are open any more and with no vehicle it is a little difficult to get to the ones that are still selling them. I have another garden 3'x3' full- I mean full of Victoria white Salvia, Salvia Evolution, and Bonfire Salvia - would it do much damage to transplant some of them to the new empty space? Any suggestions on some perrenials I could add next year to this garden? ( the larger one)? Would like to keep some of the annuals but add a few new perrenials. Thanks so much again

yes joel, quiet a shift you pretty much have it one mate, yes a shift in lifestyle to a degree definately a shift in location, but not a shift in the philosophies i aspire. yes i will in all aspects adhere to what i suggest recommend to others, no i can't change the mcmansion manicured lawn set, yes the lawn on our place won't look that manicured it won't get any watering from us nor will it get any other man made or chemical application. as we are on a corner block the footpath represents app' the same area of available lawn space, so we will be planting the footpath with habitat trees as mauch as we can, that will minimise that grass area to a small degree, however there will not be much lawn in the yard, the yard will be utilised for those supplementry type activities (i find terms like sustainability and self-sufficiency don't carry any attributes to attract the masses it is like "tooth fairy" stuff isn't it, and sad to say with the undercurrent of making dollars in the permy' sector that word to is now being rejected by the lack of following building in the simple terms of it). so we need vege' gardens and as much room as possible for food trees as well as some of the more exotic natives especially to create atmosphere around the pool/patio area, where we will pretty much live in the summer time. at present (this could be modified) we are wanting to put in two 5,400 (24,500 ltr) imp' gallon water tanks, they will take up app' 14.2 sq/mtrs of space. the tank size could yet be settled back to the 3,200 imp' gal' (14,300 ltr) size, city administrators think that a tank in a garden looks uglier than most garden sheds but you can put as large a free standing garden shed as you like where you like, not so when it comes to water conservation, silly hey?? but yes i am still very much critical of what we humans are doing in the name of providing accomodation, in these new suburbs now the ruling bird is the crow (in my opinion not native but so out of control the officials don't want to deal with it) and the indian myna(h) ferel. so we have new generations of children who if they don't get to go to an expensive tourist attracting nature park/zoo/circus will never know that we have more birds than the 2 afore mentioned species winging our skies. where we are is close to some nature reserve so at least i can attract some of a small variety of resident good birds. there are no frogs but we can change that. still after spending many months living in a newer sub-division than that where we currently are there is no likleyhood that i can see of this mythical but wonderful shed-culture that existed in the 'burb's way back in the 40's & 50's and in rural up to about the 80's, but i would welcome it with open arms. and as our 2 car garage will be converted to a games room for the pool table and an area for tall tales and fishing stories we may well attract some of the neigbourhood hey? of course in today's world of litigation they will have to sign a waver won't they?? one neighbour has come over and introduced himself as i will when i catch site of other neighbours in their gardens, certainly want to be friendly at least. and our quicky vege' garden has already been a trail blazer though it hasn't attracted any looks from neighbours so far. and where the yuppy standard for water conservation is a tank of less than 1,000 litre capacity (no enough to brush your teeth with hey chuckle) our tank(s) will reset the goal posts. please excuse the typo's len

Electrical: 1. Two-way switches at top and bottom of each stairway iucluding basement stairs. 2, Two-way switches inside house and garage to flood lamps lighting driveway. 3. Outlets on ends or sides of kitchen island counter. 4. Extra outlets in basement. There should be 2 to 3 outlets in the laundry/water softner area. There should be outlets along each basement wall. If you know where your basement workbench will be, install a couple of outlet boxes there. 5. Phone jacks in almost every room and one in the garage. Omit phone jacks in bathrooms and powder rooms. Nust have locations for phone jacks are entry hall or location of your primary phone, kitchen, each bedroom, basement, and garage. Structure: 1. Make sure that a back stoop is included. Often, these are on the model home, but not included in the owner's house plans. It may be an extra, and if so, you won't get one unless it is added. The best time to build a stoop is during basement wall construction. A beam and footing is built into the basement wall below the frost line to support the stoop and keep it in register with the house. 2. Pay attention to the ouside design of entryways, especially the main front entrance. The front step become hazardous in winter if the roof dribbles water and melting snow on the stoop. The stoop becomes iced. Rain gutters are no protection. Figure that gutters will fill with snow and drip over its edge. A cupola over the stoop or a recessed entrance is nice in northern climes. A sheltered entrance is a plus. One caveat: On a two story, the design of the entrance cover should not interfere with ladder placement to the second story roof. 3. Add anti-ice dam sheets on all lower edges of the roof. The best time to install these is when the roof is first built. This sheet is cemented to the roof board. Also, add the same to all roof valleys. 4. Consider the method of attic venting. Older constructions used vents through the roof with soffit vents. Some new constructions are using ridge vents in place of the roof vents. 5. Seal the garage floor before moving in. 6. Add chimney caps to keep birds and vermin out. 7. Inspect the framing before the siding or brick is installed. make sure that all holes are blocked, especially places where wind might penetrate. Typical places were unwanted openings may occur are at the ends of the second story floor joists, and places were the upper floor changes direction or cantilevers over the lower wall. 8. Pre-stain the interior finish wood before it is installed. You'll have to work with your builder and finish carpenter for this. The carpenter may not like to work with stained wood if the color is too dark. Woodwork finishing is easier and faster when the wood has been pre-stained. Its a pain to stain wood after it has been nailed on the walls. Its tough to keep from getting stain on the walls. 9. If there will be decorative ceiling beams, paint the ceiling and pre-stain the beams before these are installed. 10. Carefully plan where the furnace will be located if it will be a high efficiency, gas fired model. These vent through the sidewall of the house and do not use a chimney. Plan the location of the furnace and vent. If the furnace does not use the chimney, a chimney liner may be required for a gas water heater that does use the chimney. (A gas water heater does not warm the chinmey sufficently in winter to prevent condensation.)

How did MS tell you to download Reg/servo? I am at a loss to think that MS would refer a user to a non-MS product.

A basic Google Search using the keywords "Microsoft reg/servo" (sans quotes) reports very little on the matter except for inquiries into R/S itself, and a report identical to Marie's. I am wondering if this concern is just a popup promoting R/S. Perhaps an applet piggybacked in with something else.

The little time I spent reviewing Google, which is the first place a user should visit when confronted by something new, led me to no conclusion as yet.

Out of curiosity, I downloaded the installer. Opened it with my archive extractor to find, upon other things, just "one" audio file. That lone audio file proclaims that it has finished your scan and has found problems that require your attention.

What I find interesting is the absence of a corresponding audio file proclaiming that it has finished scanning and... congratulations, it has found NO problems.

But I reckon that's not really surprising. I mean, how could they scam a person out of their money if they told them their system was already clean and they didn't need to buy their product? :)

I took it off the computer, not money paid, because they claimed they caught over 3000 errors. I have XP, When I was trying to get to Sirius XM radio to check on something regarding this program, that is when I got the message--claiming windows could not open the program without cleaning it up--or something to that affect-----and because it appeared to come from MS, I installed it, and ran it. But now it is gone, not sure if it would help clean up the computer or not

It would help and that would be the next step. I would do a scan with Malwarebytes. If you need help with that let us know.

I suspect that "Microsoft" was a scammer posing as Microsoft. I would follow zep's advice and scan your computer for malware since that program you downloaded could have put more on your computer than you realize The fact that you "took it off the computer" does not mean you don't have other things that were secretly installed and could do damage.

I did some further research on this program, and other users report that they have had problems with their computers after downloading/using this, as it messes up the registry and sometimes installs malware, such as a program that interferes with your browser and forces you to use a particular search engine. Again, run an antimalware program, such as the free program Malwarebytes, to make sure you are clean.
