Have you auto-programmed or auto-scanned for channels. I would still think you might need a box not a 100% sure.

The following, from the FAQ at the link Zep included in his post, says you do not need a box to receive TV reception:

"Question:
If I am a basic cable subscriber do I have to upgrade to Digital Cable?
Answer:
No. Broadcast, Basic and Expanded Cable customers who chose not to lease a digital cable set-top box should not notice any difference"

I have Comcast Digital with a 13 year old TV connected via cable (no intervening box) in a spare room. The picture is not HD quality, but it's as good as I ever received on that TV before the switch to digital.

As Zep suggested, you might need to auto scan.

ok well first off that guy was an idiot, you do not have to have a remote to set up a tv, they do have buttons on the tv to do what he needed done, the fact that he blamed it on the remote is very telling, I personally would call time warner back and demand someone be sent out that has a brain cell. I can not even believe he left you with no picture on the tv.
The level of our service providers today is getting horrible, there is a thread over on BBR about similar poor installs.

I think the installer somehow botched the install, and gave you the baloney about new batteries to get out of there without spending any time fixing the problem. Get a competent installer out, be there, and don't let them leave until you've got this fixed, or have an answer that makes sense. And tell the company they better not be charging you for the second trip...

I have had some bad installers too in my moves, luckily this time all of the ones that came here for the various installs were excellent and went far beyond what would be the norm. And I can tell you I do not mind in the least tipping a good installer, if they show me they are doing a good job and actually care about their work and the work shows that I do tip them, I know it is not the easiest job and they are under a lot of constraints.
In fact the 2 guys that did my direct tv move install here have since been hired by me to do several other install jobs on my home theater system so for them doing a good job the first time has definitely paid off. Doing a crappy job does not make anyone happy.

Yep... most of you are right- he didn't even install it! Another TW guy came out and was pretty p^'d! I don't need a box- just somebody who completes the job.....sigh

My tv is worthless without the remote control that came with the tv.
Well maybe if you have special near sighted wide screen glasses so you can sit on the floor in front of it while doing setup.... That one little setting button on the front just doesnt get-it - takes a half hour just to wade through the menus , sooooooo many settings. You certainly can't see the screen sitting that close unless you're a kid.

Half hour after delivery and install of a new HD digital cable box by brite-house ,,, that TV suddenly said I was stealing service and my service was disabled.

Of course they sent out a second guy to fix it... who I again had to wait for,,, he spent 45 minutes on his cell phone to straighten out what the original installer or the office typed in wrong .... the box id.
