Need flooring advice for multi-purpose utility area

In my new "old" house we are going to have an L-shaped multi-purpose room that I am calling "the back porch." It will serve as our office, a sleeping porch (with a daybed,) art and craft studio, laundry, recycling center, dog wash (deep sink) and pantry overun space. It's fairly large. The longest part of the L is 23 x 7.5.

I really don't want tile because it is so hard and unforgiving. The rest of the house is hardwood floors. We really would like to create a look of an enclosed back porch. My first inclination is to put painted wood on the floor, but then I'm not sure about the laundry being on wood. What do you suggest? Something durable and appropriate to a new "old" bungalow style house? Cork? Wood? Marmoleum?
