'Some updates could not be installed'

I'm running Windows XP. I've been getting this message for 3 weeks. Should I be concerned? I see discussions about this error message with possible fixes which may or may not work.

The update not installed is.............

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2656353)

1. Download theDOTNETFX.EXE redistributable package from Microsoft's download site

2. Install it, it may seems that nothing has happened.

3. Download the KB2416447 manually and run from here (32bit Version)

4. Then try to check for updates

What version of Net Framework do you have? I am currently at v3.5 SP1, and v4 Client Profile.

I once had a concern with a Net update error which turned out to be a distribution error as my Net was newer than the version that was trying to update. Someone else had the same concern later. We both chose to ignore the update offering.

ERF - thx on the closet! hopefully it'll look even better when I get dressers and cabinets in here to put my clothes and linens in. So far I only have those shelves! oh boy, this guy is great! and rather cheap - thankfully! he's a young guy in early 20's. hard worker. raised in good home helping his dad build their house. has 4 yr old and one on the way so extra money is always needed. He booked on thru about half my list in 5 hrs yesterday. took away the stove and dw that were in here and put my 'new' ones in place. couldn't hook up the dw yet - needs some plumbing done. fixed 2 security doors, got the bird's nest out of my bathroom window, caulked the patio door. He even nicely cleaned up where the stove and dw were - and they were bad. I'll be able to clean better when they're pulled back out to replace the floor and do plumbing, but the worst of it is done. he moved the fridge in here out to the LR so I can clean that up before my fridge comes over. He measured all of the doorways in advance to check clearances - wow. he also brought my mw over here for me and set the clock on my stove. I think he even set the clock on the mw - cause I know I didn't. got the tubes out from under bathroom sink and kit sink so I can take to lowe's to get replacements. and more that he'll need. so last night I updated the list. crossed off things done and added more things - lol! he's such a good, hard worker. after some of the older 'professional' guys I had here to do stuff and did bad work, I'm so thrilled. today he's working at my sister's house. hers is outdoor work helping her dh move rocks. I'm gonna have him dig some holes around here for me to plant some trees in a few wks. we've had rain this wk so the ground is softer than usual. He'll think it's a breeze here because my land isn't rocky like my sister's. Her land is like solid rock - they had to blast to build. I'll put that ikea flip table on my list. won't get to that til next yr tho. i would like to get to our ikea store as they have mirrors i'd like for my bathrooms @ 15.00 each. what a deal. I need to ask this guy if he'll take down the mirrors in the bathrooms now 'cause I hate them. I'll probably have him help put down some of this flooring too. He has a friend (out of work) and thinks he will come help him move my stuff over here. I need the flooring down before the major stuff comes over. I let him take the 'spare' appliances (in very bad condition) to recycle for the metal. I also have a dead small oven and mw he'll take. dang, stuff's getting done and 'trash' is disappearing. yea!

Looks so much different -- and better. I remember you saying this had a very minimal budget. Is all the furniture borrowed? It makes a huge difference. I think I'd hold on the cabinets and counters from what I can tell (these angled photos are trying to show a lot, but they make it harder to get a sense of being in the room). If every other house on the market in that area has granite and it seems to be a real impediment to selling, then maybe, but I think the whole place is warmed up enough that I think a buyer could now see a younger family living here and it isn't a huge leap to see replacing the counters if the house is priced appropriately (maybe a few thousand less than similar with granite). One thing you might want to try -- the space above the upper cabinets seems a bit dark with the darker paint. throw a string of Christmas lights up on top of the cabinets and run the cord down the back of a cabinet by an outlet. You can get a plug adapter with a switch so you can turn them on and off with the flip of a switch and you have some accent lighting for less than $10.

Oh wow, thanks everybody!! To be described as "kitchen porn" by RM...haha. Enjoy your nanaimo bars, I'll be eating tv dinners for a little longer. I've read a couple of comments about size, and we love it of course. BUT the only reason we could afford this house was how poorly it showed by the agent, and the rooms that were just icky. When we bought the house three years ago we had a ton of things to do and have been renovating/fixing/redecorating ever since!! So all you're seeing is the result, but there were many years of people coming to our house and looking room to room and going - oh, you need to renovate this room too?? It's a true fixer-upper and has been a ton of work. We would not have been able to do this having kids, and I know many of you do have small children. So we have sacrificed starting a family in order to fix our house first!! This is the reality behind the "porn" if you will, just like how they Photoshop all the kitchen magazines, and how the (not-as-good analogy) porn star was really forced into the industry due to having low self-esteem. As a reality check, here are some before pics of the kitchen. We painted the ugly laminate cabs that smelled terrible, and replaced the mouth-like hardware: This was the result: Our amazing "cooking area": And here is a pic of just one of the bathrooms we need to renovate, just to give you an idea of the state its in. No pretty, inset cabinets here!! Boysrus2 - I'm so sorry to hear about lack of progress. We were sitting around for 3 weeks as well to figure out a custom stain AND book a new stainer. It was frustrating...and we're technically getting our granite 3.5 weeks after they measured which is quite uncommonly long. So don't you worry, your time will come too. I just got reminded of my old floors. Can you imagine how different the feel would be if we decided to stick with them? Much more "country" in feel and would clash with the cabinets.

hi! we're in the middle of a kitchen update (big update, small kitchen!) and we have taken out the counters and cabinets, and are a day away from installing new cabinets. i'm going to wait until the granite counters are in to do the backsplash, but i'm wondering about the backsplash behind the stove. do you think we should take at least the first few rows of it down before putting the cabinet and rangehood back up? and, if so, what's the best way to do it? i'm nervous about wrecking the wall behind it. if you're interested, you can see more at www.iloveprojects.org. thanks for any and all tips!

How do I find the version? I tried these steps but it doesn't end up showing that information.

Use the registry information below to determine which version(s) and service pack level(s) of the Microsoft .NET Framework are installed.

To do this, following the steps below:
1. Click Start, type regedit in the Search programs and files box (click Run and type regedit in the Run Dialogbox in Windows XP), and then press Enter.
2. In the Registry Editor, locate the Registry Key Name in the table below and check the value for the related .NET Framework.

I get folders called HKEY and when I opened them briefly I didn't see the information I was looking for.

Zep, I'll try your steps if nothing easier is suggested.

I would think this is the version as stated in the up-date message you got.

Easiest way is to look in the Programs and Features folder (Add/Remove Programs) or if you have REVO installed look there.

I have no "REVO" when looking in "Add/Remove Programs."

Where is the Programs and Features folder?

REVO is a program used to remove/uninstall programs he did not say to look for REVO in add remove programs, he suggested to use REVO to see if it listed it there, if you do not have REVO installed then never mind that suggestion.

If you have xp it will be Add/Remove programs if you have windows 7 it is programs and features folder same thing different operating system.

I personally block the .NET updates they can and have caused headaches, if at some point I use a program that requires an updated version I will deal with it then but so far that has not happened.

Since quite often the Net updates come several at a time I do one at a time starting with the lowest numbered Knowledge Base (KB) number. I have never had a concern.

My thought has been that this may be another advantage of avoiding automatic Windows update.

If mine, I would to control panel add/remove programs and uninstall .NET 1.1 .

If some program turns up some day not working & says it requires .NET 1.1 = simply download & reinstall.

That download can be installed over itself.. probably fix your problem. But you probably dont need 1.1
