Foxit Reader

If a loaded operating program states it requires Adobe Reader will it function properly with Foxit Reader as default instead?

My impression is Foxit hogs less resources making the comp run a bit freer - is that corect? Or would the difference ever be seen?

I'm trying to speed up a bogged down machine; making progress; want more.

If anyone doesn't think C Cleaner is good - I ran it once and it removed 4+ Gigs of crap. Gigs!

Install Foxit and try it on the program that is asking for AdobeReader. If foxit doesn't do what needs done its a simple clean install/install. That's one thing foxit is proud of. Its simplicity.

I have not had any conflict or functioning difficulty since I switched over to FI.

Been a while since you got time to do your maintenance, eh?

:0)

With that much file movement I would bet it will take quite a while to do a defrag

I have been using the PDF reader built into Firefox for some time now. No complaints with it. Regarding your unwanted crapware I have been using the custom install for some time after realising some sites were doing exactly what Foxit has been up to. It is about money of course, they get a fee for all those unwanted installs, plus many of those probably do not get removed once the user has made the discovery. For those who may fear using the custom install method it is very simple, you check off all you need and leave out what is not wanted.

yes very true Owbist the average user will indeed get the exe and what bothers me is the other stuff that was noted in Corrine's post that is included and happens behind the scenes. Definitely needs to go in the Hall of Shame list now. Plus the fact that if you do not include the toolbar it tells you parts of it will not work which will cause some users to be fearful and go ahead and install the toolbar.

Unless you are emotionally attached to AR or the site absolutely mandates it, I personally haven't found one yet as all they traditionally do is recommend, you might want to rethink installing or updating to AR v9.0. Beginning with AR v6.0 the application has become more system intensive requiring more resources. I do not know about v9.0, but v7.0 and v8.0 are terribly difficult to remove from your system if you ever so decide to. The free application Foxit Reader has been the recent .pdf viewer being recommended here and at other forums. All you have to do is install it and configure it to be the default reader. It is low resource demanding and from my readings a snap to remove. DA

One of my boys had his comp 4 years with no maintenance. Several business programs on it. Got slow for some reason :-)

I use Foxit Reader as my default reader and it works perfect for any PDF file.

I've been using for a few years now with no issues. First thing I did after getting the new computer was to install it. Easy to update too... just click on HELP... check for updates... install updates.

Funny thing Bob is that's exactly what I did too. First day I installed my most common and reliable applications on the new system. FI was one of them.

That must say something good about FI.

DA, PoohBear recommended it here on this forum a few years back to another poster. I'm glad he did as I have not had one problem with using it... which was a far cry from when I was using Adobe.

I just downloaded Foxit based on this thread. Thanks for the info. Looking forward to using it.

I downloaded Foxit awhile back and have no trouble getting things from website,s. Just wish I could get rid of Adobe I tried Add/Remove and get the following.
"This patch could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exsists and that you access it, or contact the application vender to verify that this is a windows installer patch package".
I really don,t know how to find patches ect the computer tells me I have Adobe 7.0.7

I have been using foxit for a number of years with no problems. Just make sure to check for new versions occasionally.

They try to keep their software safe from hackers.

This might sound silly, but download a slightly newer version (7.0.9) and install it. Reboot, then uninstall it.

That has worked before. That version actually gets rid of the older version. If you go to 8, it will leave the 7.0.7 version there.
