Can I remove any of these processes?

My computerÂa four-year-old Dell Dimension 4550Âneeds more memory, and I'm trying to find out how much of an upgrade it can take, and what type of memory. Meanwhile, since the computer has gotten soooo slow, I'm trying to figure out what else I can do.

I used Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Windows Task Manager, and found over 50 processes running. Does this sound excessive? Below are several processes that list me as the user (as opposed to SYSTEM being the user). Do you think I can safely delete them? And will that make any difference? I assume the first is Microsoft Works, which I don't use. (I use word.)

MSWORKS.EXE 5,340 K memory used

RuLaunch.exe 5,432

MSASCui.exe 4,356

msmsgs.exe 7,108

WG111CFG.exe 1,888

msimn.exe 4,468

Thanks!

Susan
