hum, interesting we have a free checking account with them because we have direct deposit, if we stop that, i wonder if the fees would start to pile up and we'd wind up oweing them a ton of money and they'd ruin our credit over it but none the less, i'd love to screw with them like that acutally, we've had several "run ins" with them over crap like that, and it was just the last straw, we've banked with them for 12 years, only three times in 12 years have we bounced checks, and once, was not our fault, it was theirs, and i have the letter to prove it, and they wouldn't give us a lousy 10K loan to buy property its just been alot of stuff like, when we moved, we changed our address with them, and there again, i have an e-mail with proof that they changed it, but all of a sudden, we started having stuff get kicked back and the merchants would say "your billing address doesn't match" and when we called the bank they said "we don't know what happened" even when i send them a copy of the e-mail confirming our change of address they had no explination at all, just an "oh well, we're sorry" and over the years, we've ran into lots of folks that have either been with them and left, or heard bad things about them and choose not to bank with them i just kept tellin daniel, "we've been with them for along time, we've got a whole box of checks, all our bills are online payments, lets just ride it out" but after this, even i was willing to close the account tesa

That bank account balance grows on you, doesn't it? I loved looking at it. But now I have almost everything bought except for the last couple thousand dollars worth of trim, sheet rock, nails, etc. All that stuff that isn't fun to buy. The bank balance isn't so fun to look at any more. I've never lived in a kitchen with tile back splash. the closest I've come to a backsplash that wasn't hooked on to the formica counter was this house! It had formica counter, metal edge trim, and Formica from the counter to the bottom of the cabinets. The best I can remember for a time line on this house is that it was remodeled in the 70's. I think. My friend's parents lived here when we were already adults with kids of our own. They did a nice job on everything but still......it's time. I'm going to forgo the backsplash for now. I am decisioned out! And I think I will carry my wallpaper over to the backsplash area. I've had that before and I like it. I'm still on budget BUT nothing has been ripped out yet. The house was built in 1880 so I am anticipating all sorts of problems. Soon, very soon, we will start. And then I'll know. I hadn't planned on any new appliances since all of mine are new enough. If I go over budget there's no where to cut.

This is one of the reasons why I refuse to deal with chain banks. Another is they don't pay nearly as much interest as my little, over-100-year-old Savings and Loan does. My real estate agent kept calling my bank the "Bailey Savings and Loan" (referring to the little bank in It's A Wonderful Life"--because it's small, they know their depositors, and they act like an old-fashioned establishment that truly cares about their customers. My husband, on the other hand, uses a bank that was a small bank when he was a teen, but it's changed hands several times since. Lastly--it was sold to a Spanish bank, before that, it was owned by Indians (from India). He's had one difficulty after another--they take money from his accounts for no reason, and then there's no one there with the authority to fix the problem, necessitating several trips in and out to get the mess straightened out. I've tried to get him to ditch them, and move his money someplace that's less of a hassle, but he's loyal to a fault. I don't believe I'd stay with a bank that made those kinds of changes without sending a notification ahead of time. Just think of the potential problems--you didn't know the new documents were coming. What if they'd gotten lost in the mail, and someone unscrupulous got their hands on them? And you didn't know until there was a lot of activity on your accounts? What about all those outstanding checks and debits people have out. Responsible management would have notified you well in advance of accounts/numbers being changed so you wouldn't be in the difficulties you are now. I really think there's something wrong here, and I'd be contacting the state banking official to see if he/she felt the same way. And I'd definitely be at the bank first thing tomorrow to close my accounts and move them someplace that had more respect for their customers.

Ignore it. Unless you signed something that obligates you when you first opened the account, then I would not respond. It's not against the law for them to ask, but they really can't force you to answer. Our Citicard has been trying to get updated information from us for over a year now and I will never respond. We don't want anything that them knowing this information would generate i.e. marketing products, higher credit limits, new card options and so on.
