Both my FF 11.x and FF 8.x behave as mikie describes above at 21:34 hrs yesterday. When I hi-lite and right click as owbist describes I only get Wikipedia (And Answers.com which I downloaded to the one machine.) and not Google. So, somewhere out there is a way to add Google to the right click option and to turn on the alt-enter option for the search bar. Someone, somewhere else said that I need to double click something in about:config. I haven't gone there yet as I am waiting for my IT person, aka spouse, to take an interest in my petty problem.

Mikie you don't know it but you made me laugh. I actually forgot the easiest and the most obvious. Good thing it wasn't a snake. It would have jumped up and bit me. Thanks. DA

Okay, using the Firefox "troubleshooter" I went to plug ins and set and changed "shock waver" from always on to ask. All seems much better - so far. Right now the CPU Utilization is so low the processor speed, a slow 1.4 Ghz is backing down to slower speeds to save power, this is a Laptop and does what it can to extend battery life even if the A/C is attached, or so it seems. I tried to view a video on Youtube and it asked me to enable Shock Wave, I did and the video play normally and the CUP utilization was still well below the old 90% level. This my be the culprit - I wonder what IE does about Shock Wave, I'll try to find out later. Another mystery: HOW DO I BOOT IN SAFE MODE in W8? Yes I know I'm shouting but that's how I feel about Microsoft at the moment, maybe a Mac is in my future, when I'm "rich and famous".

Ginny, AutoHotKey is a small, easy to learn, free programme that will do exactly what you require and much much more! You can simply edit one of the example files using Notepad and change it to suit your needs. If you make a mistake nothing gets harmed - just keep trying until it does what you want. It is even easier to use if you read the help file first because it explains everything in simple terms! I have made a file for you that starts Firefox and Word at the same time when you press WinKey and q together. Just open Notepad and copy and paste the following few lines into it and save the file as "win q.ahk" (without the quotes). It works when you press the WinKey and q together. (You can edit the file and choose any key you prefer later.) *** copy and paste the next lines *** ; win+q Start Firefox and Word when you press WinKey and q together #q:: Run c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe Run c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe *** don't copy this line *** Make sure you don't miss the semicolon on the first line.
