disabaled HP finger print sensor, don't have password

Because I was annoyed with the required finger swipe to continue to boot, I disabled the finger sensor.

Now the notebook won't load because it wants a password. I don't recall ever setting one so I don't have any file, backup disk or thumb drive to recover it.

I checked at HP-dot-com. Didn't locate anything useful. How can I solve this problem?

If the below falls short you may have to call HP. There is not much information out there. Being a newer security feature I can understand why.

You're going to have a difficult time getting into windows 7. I'd follow damccoy excellent advice and call hp. The technique to get in is long and labor intensive and the instructions should not be posted on a forum. There is no guarantee that the instructions will work either.

Try leaving the password blank when it asks for one.

Recently, my door will not stay when down when it is closed. It will go down all the way, then go back up. The only way to keep it closed is to hit the switch just as the door starts back up, then hit it again to close it. This only works if the door is only several inches or so back up when I hit the switch. The problem started a few months ago and happened only occassionally, I think only when it was very cold. Now it happens about every time I close it. I played with the down pressure setting, going from very light to heavy, with no luck. The opener is quite old, it preceded me in the house whihc I bought 16 years ago. But it has worked perfectly until now. I changed springs within the past 5 years. Any idea?

I must installed a 1/2 horsepower chain-drive Craftsman garage door opener. It is a 'new generation' unit so I had to replace all the remotes. My problem is that it will open on its own! I have remotes in two vehicles and one in the house (I have not been able to program my built-in controller in my 2009 Toyota, so I have a Sears remote clipped to the visor). It will remain closed for an extended period and then open on its own. There is no apparent cause and I don't believe it is interference from another remote in the vicinity of our house. Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I know i sound like a tape recorder but my craftsman 1/2 hp has been working fine for 3 yrs. Not sure what happened to the remotes, but they stopped working. I first tried replacing the batteries but after that didnt work i went out and brought two brand new up to date chamberlain klik3u universal garage remotes. Retail 40 bucks per. They say in the manual they are compatible to my garage opener which was manufactured in 1997. They wont program as well. My garage opens and closes fine. I guess im here to find out if anyone has any other trouble shooting facts to program because the "press the red button like a door bell, hit the button you want programmed" basics isnt working for me. I called chamberlain about the remotes and they basically told me go jump in a lake, all our remotes program fast and easy!!! I need help ppl. Plzzzzz

A shot in the dark here. It's an old HP fix-it. Shut down your system. Disconnect printer from system. Unplug printer from the wall for sixty seconds. (If it is plugged into a surge suppressor/power strip unplug it from the strip.) Reconnect printer to system. Plug printer back in directly to wall. Turn on printer and let it configure. Boot up system. Cross fingers. Print. The thought process is some HP transformers are fussy and don't like an unstable electrical supply; particularly through power strips/surge suppressors (two different things in actuality) In their fuss they can drop settings, handshakes and configurations. Thanks for your suggestions.

But this time I took the chicken way out and hauled the computer to our local Best Buy geek squad where I waited while the tech took care of things.

After he listened to my problem, all he did was insert one of his premade CDs, followed a few directions on screen, and removed the existing password. Took only 10 minutes or so, and saved me a lot of gray hair while trying to remedy the situation on my own.

Now I need neither a finger swipe nor a password. But, lest you're concerned, know that's fine for this machine. Nothing critical, sensitive or personal on it, only my teaching PowerPoints, all of which are backed up elsewhere.

Easy when you have the disk. Making that disk is is long and labor intensive. It's a reset disk enough said.
