vprot. exe has encountered a problem, and

needs to close, etc., in a box every time I boot up.
Googled this, and am still in the dark, do not grasp what is being said.
Could someone explain in very plain English what is going on, and should I be concerned about this?
things have been going well for a long time now, spoze it is time for a bump in the road?

AVG anti-virus search protection .... is what most web forums say it belongs to.

That often comes free with other program installs... a junk, spying, ad-serving tool bar probably that's gonna protect you from some advertising by giving you their junky ads instead.

search the filename to see for sure whom it belongs to then uninstall it ?? or re-install it. Because it sounds like its broke. Probably disable it in CCleaner tools startups section.

Here is where I think I am... There are no more updates except for a few programs relating to internet explorer which I am not using. There is one suggestion that I update to a newer version of xp. I will put this on hold for now. I went back to the microsoft website to check on the removal tool capabilities. The worm blaster is an alias of msblast. So I do not have a virus at least as far as microsoft is telling me. One solution posted on a link from the win32 host process link that was suggested earlier was that the problem was simply a driver problem. So I have my driver installation disk in hand. I could reinstall it... question is do I have to change the boot up procedure to do it or just stick it in and let it fly. I don't see that this would hurt in any way unless other vendors modify drivers already on the system. I have no printer or scanner and only 4 or 5 outside vendor packages. The other approach would be to determine the state of my drivers currently on the system. I am not sure how I do that. One factor I rechecked today. When I connect to the internet my selection on control panel/internet connections/ is changed to ... never dial a connection. When I disconnect from the internet I can sign back on but cannot connect to any web page. I have to bring up the control panel... and change the choice to... always use my default number. The funny thing is that I checked my wife's computer (same as mine only newer with identical software)and her choice always is... never dial a connection yet she never has a problem reconnecting to the internet. that link scanner has been a big problem in AVG at various times, I would try doing as one person suggested and disable that link scanner from AVG and see if that works. AVG in their FAQ in fact tells how to install AVG with out the link scanner since it causes so many problems. Frequently Asked Questions this is the reply I am referring to by ripling "I tracked my particular problem to AVG 9 , specifically the AVG Active Surf-Shield in their LinkScanner, I unticked that & all has been fine since apart from not having that particular component of AVG available to use." Of course you can always try reverting back to an earlier version of Firefox which it seems many there have done and it seems to go back to normal. do you have the no script add on in your firefox by chance? I see in some threads there may be an issue with it causing a similar problem, however the most recent update of no script supposedly fixes it. from over on BBR I found this comment "tool>options>security uncheck block reported attack sites and block reported web forgeries. restart firefox and see if that helps" There is a new release candidate of firefox that you can give a try if you want to do that, see if it makes any difference new Firefox! seems to be a problem many are trying to find a cure for and none I have seen is the end all be all fix, some things work for some not for others. Those are so difficult to dig out the root cause.

I have talked to DS and he would like more time during the week at ex's house when ex is off work without me taking away his weekends because he can go to friends house to get away if needed and he might catch some extra time with ex. I will allow for the time being but have made him aware that the minute grades slip that I will once again take matters into my own hands so if he wants to be able to spend extra time with his father on weekdays DS knows that it is HIS responsibility to get his homework done. I have decided that all of this arguing between SM and I is only having a negative effect on DS and my relationship with DS so I will leave things alone for now.It is just not worth it to see DS miserable because SM and I are having issues right now which usually happens every few years as I fight for control and realize that she will make DS life miserable if I try to take it away from her and I back off. This has been the norm but this time I am more frustrated than usual because I am always the one that has to give in while they give nothing and it just gets old after awhile. But I have lived with fighting, divorced parents making life miserable and I will not do that to DS. I have lived with a mother that continuously expected me to hate my father as much as she did. And even though I was not telling DS to hate SM, I was just tired of picking up the pieces she leaves behind and telling him to be less trusting so SM cannot hurt him continuously, I do understand why DS would take the message as such when SM is also on him about me keeping him away from her. Both ex and SM are lucky to have their parents still happily married and while we get along for the most part, neither of them know what it feels like as I do firsthand and realize what their actions are doing. Of course, usually it is always my fault and nothing is ever SM fault. SM sent me an email two days ago explaining that she was never going to forgive me for keep DS away from her while she was separated from ex and that she was sorry for nothing because she has done absolutely nothing to feel sorry for. That is the story of life with SM. So I will continue to be the peacemaker to make life easier on DS because I can and that is what I do best as I did for my mother by not visiting my dad for almost eight years because she hated it so much. I hope that one day he will realize how many times I have just had to bite my tongue and go along with it to make life more peaceful for DS while with SM.

I remember when I was a kid....visiting some friends who had a ranch. There was a boy about my age, and his job was to drive the pickup out to where his dad was mowing in a pasture, and take him water or pick him up at lunch time and drive him back to the house. We were about 12 years old, but he could drive the truck, and, anyway, he didn't have to get on the road to do this. So we took some cold water out to his dad. About the time we showed up, his dad ran over a bumble bee nest. They nest in the ground, and they were flying everywhere. The tractor was sitting right on top of it. His dad quickly put a tow chain on it and jumped back in the truck. Then he realized, he had forgotten to put the tractor in gear. So he told his son to get out and do it. I remember how . the kid complained, but he did it, and jumped back in the truck, and the dad was able to pull the tractor off quite some distance away. No one got stung, and the bees were flying all around, so I guess they aren't as aggressive as wasps, etc.

Fellas, I forgot to mention, now that I am back and clear thinking somewhat, that I had uninstalled a program that had a lavendar? feather icon in the tray, was for taking pdf files apart. Recommended here in the forum, decided I didn't really need it, so uninstalled, and right after that, this box started showing up. As of now, my icon for AVG does not have an arrow, as suggested in the discussion group at the site Joe sent me to, so am scratching my head now, won'dering what to do, and shakey at that. Is this something I could live with if I had to, or should I worry it will make more trouble for me at this time? Have not had any trouble with AVG, and have been clean that I know of, no CC here anymore, have trimmed down all excess programs I can to make this older machine run what I thought was better.
Thanks to anyone, and so good of you to respond, I am deeply grateful for that.

OK boys, I just uninstalled the AVG toolbar, and have lost the box!
I hope I don't have to go any farther with this, as I am so cramped for time, trying to get things done for the senior group's VD party in a couple weeks. I will keep an eye on things, and hopefully won't have to venture farther into the world of geekdom, I just am not comfy trying to do some of those things myself, and so I enjoy reading what others have done, and the results they got.
I am going to hope this will end the prob, and if not, will be back. Have I not done enuf now? Or???
