I have a whole house water softner What kind of miele dishwasher?
Comments (10)I had my Miele Excella DW bypass our whole house softener and had it connected to the COLD water supply. Why? Long story short, TOO soft water and/or too HOT water can permanently etch your glassware. I learned this the hard way. The Miele DW softener supposedly reduces your water's hardness to about 5 grains of hardness, which is supposed to be optimal for use with today's DW detergents. A whole house softener will reduce it to zero grains of hardness. The detergents are too harsh in zero hardness and permanently etch glassware. Glassware is supposed to be washed in less hot water than a normal household water heater sends in the hot water supply. Therefore, I let my DW heat the wash water to the proper temp for each wash cycle setting. I wash my glasses in a seperate cycle setting "Crystal/China". I have two DW, so this is my luxury and so far it is saving my glassware, including crystal wine glasses and my "good" china! Having to heat the wash water causes my DW cycles to run a bit longer, but my dishes are being washed as optimally as Miele technology knows how to do!...See MoreNew Kitchen Aid Dishwasher with Water Softener
Comments (21)I think the advice to get a whole house water softenter is "Spot on". Our 9 year old KA DW was "totalled" by our ultra hard water here in S. Calif. It looked like snow coating all the staintless inside the DW, I did clean it often with limeaway, but it still built up faster than I could clean it. The lime gets in the DW pump, in the intake valve and even coats the heating element. In fact one of my tenants called and said their DW was smoking--it was only 3 years old---maybe less. The problem was traced, by my tenant to the heating element. He cleaned all the lime off it and it's now fine---I added softwater there too! We have the softwater, just on the hot side, We use Raine Water Softner company--(A competitor to Culligan). It cost me about $35 for the installation (right next to the water heater) and it runs me about $25/month. They change the tank once/month---at 69, I don't wanna be lugging salt around, then lifting it up and pouring it in the softner---so it's well worth the $25/month to us-- (those that have been on Terra Firma as long as we have will certainly understand!!! Everything on the not water side stays spotless, Bath tub, hot side of sinks, etc etc---the cold side is still a mess!!! HTH's Gary...See MoreMiele G2183 SCSF Dishwasher Drying? Comments (5)I have been using my new Miele for a little less than a month. The only drying I have had to do are the indentations on the bottom of the coffee cups and the rims/ridges around the Rubbermaid plastic pieces.(And I usually just do a quick bounce off my pant leg for those!) I did a big load of plastic the other day as I decided to replace all my old plastic storage pieces with new ones that had matching lids, etc. That load was not as wet as my old Maytag with heated dry would have left them. I'm still getting used to loading optimally and I've had a couple casserole dishes that didn't quite come clean, but over all I'm more than happy with it!...See MoreDid your Miele DW installer calibrate the water softener?
Comments (9)why can't Miele include 1 or 2). because the test strips would sit in the units full of residule water from testing before they leave the factory in Germany and then sit in the warehouse in the USA before being sent to the dealer/customer. In short -they probably wouldn't be very good by the time you got them and the installer would just throw them away with the instructions anyway! Some Miele models are also self diagnostic for setting the water softener. "My certified installer http://www.newyorkminute.biz/ did not set the water softener value because he said it depends on the area " They're all different? No kidding! That's still NO EXCUSE for not setting the value. BTW - I know the owner of NYM and sat next to him in a certification class with two of his "team members" when the Miele boffins went over the procedure , so I know that that co. is aware of the drill....See MoreUser
