We have a 'very' old Amana bottom freezer. It was in a house we bought 10 years ago. It's been quite reliable - only one issue that I know of, which I was able to fix myself by looking at their website (deli drawer was too cold). We are finally getting ready for a new fridge and I'm down to another Amana or a Kenmore Elite. I need to do a little more research myself with the newer models!

When we were looking sears carried nearly all the amana fridges. They may not have the ss on in stock but they would most likely have the same fridge, just different color for you too look at.

My MIL has an amana bottom freezer. I like it and would have bought it if it fit in my kitchen. I don't think that the interior is any better/worse than my maytag. The amana is actually set up better, but that is probably because it has a bottom freezer, mine is a top freezer.

I think they are a great unit for the price. Make sure you are getting SS though and not SS "look". We saw a lot of fridges that had SS "look" and it is plastic coated with a SS paint. I think Amana made a fridge like that. So I would just double check. It actually looked very nice, but if you already have SS in your kitchen it will not match.

Have had one in SS for about 5 years. Got it at Sears. Works great, no problems, except the way the drawers are assembled in the bottom of the frig. part make them hard to put back together after cleaning. Hopefully, they've fixed that. Ice-maker in freezer works great. You can manually turn it on and off from inside the freezer ( a bar that goes up or down), and that works well. Glass shelves in frig. clean easily and pull out. I overload the door shelves which, even though plastic, have held up well. I'd do Amana again.

if you look at a comparable kitchenaid, jennair, dacor, or maytag, you'll be able to get a pretty good idea of what the amana is like on the inside, since they're all manufactured by the same company and just badged/finished differently (i do believe).

Whirlpool owns all of these brands. Amana makes the KA and JennAir.

when we were purchasing our current fridge (an amana) we were told by the appliance store rep that the dacor, maytag, amana, KA, and jenn air were all the exact same fridge, with the exception of name badges, finish, and handles.

after poking around at all of them and inspecting the inside, i can confirm that the insides are all exactly the same, at least on the model we bought (36" conv. depth bottom freezer french door w/internal water dispenser). we went with the amana, which was the cheapest

whether this is true for other models, i have no idea.

Edlakin - we bought the Jenn-Air because of the handles and because the freezer drawers have plastic inserts on the bottom. Our appliance guy told us the same thing, but he did say that the Amana, KA and jA are all made by AMana and the Maytag is made on the "other side of the house" - in other words, not by Amana, but by Maytag. I don't know about Dacor.

He told us to stay away from the Maytag. Trust me, I already knew that: my mother had a Maytag that she ended up returning because it was so horrible and had so many temperature problems.

i've never had one myself but my uncle has had his own appliance repair service for well over 40 years. he recommended amana for our last house. i got a sub zero instead. i should have listened to my uncle.

I have the JennAir version. I was aware they are all pretty much the same. Like raynag I chose this one for the handles. (Seems like a stupid way to choose a frig, but that's what it came down to.)

While they are all *pretty much* the same, I think there are some detailed differences. Can anyone verify whether they all have the digital temperature display? That seems useful to have.

I was worried about this. (None of the Maytag/Amana line has a good reputation right now. There seems to be some hope that it will get better now that they were bought by Whirlpool.) But so far I have happy with it.
