Finishing Back Splash edge

Hi,

I am half way through tiling a vanity and back splash. I have tiled the deck and I am about to tile the back splash. My thinset is white and my grout is colored (beige). How do I finish the top edge of the "back splash" tile, it has a bullnose edge and is being attached directly to painted drywall (no water issues). Do I -

a) Make sure there is thinset above the edge of the bull nose while setting it then just clear off the excess (this will leave the whitish thinset showing.

b) Leave a small gap with no thinset at the top when setting the tile and fill it with colored grout afterwards. Will look consistent with the rest of the tiled area but I can find no mention of this in books so it probably isn't the correct way!

c) Do it the "proper way"????

d) Leave the gap (no thinset showing) but caulk it, don't grout it.

Actually, either B or D will work. D's better, though. As for looking consistent, there are matching grouts made for almost every color of grout (made by the same manufacturer), so you could use a matching siliconized latex caulk and it would still look consistent.

Pretty tile. Are your shelves extending to the edge of the countertop? The question most frequently asked is: do you end the tile at the cabinets (shelves, in your case) or at the countertop? Is that a closed door to the right of the outlet? Is the outlet a light switch? I would think it would look odd to go to the floor unless you also went to the ceiling.

No to the double backsplash. You could try removing the short granite splash, but you don't know how well the countertop is scribed to the wall (the granite splash allows the fabricator some leeway).

I wouldn't mix in another stone. Either run the same countertop material up the wall as a backsplash, or use a simple subway tile. If you use a grout color close to the tile (white can be hard to keep clean but a light grey works well) it isn't visually busy.
