Replacing 48' JennAir Electric Downdraft

This is my first question here, but I've been reading enthusiastically about the induction cooktops. I started out looking for any electric 48" downdraft unit, now I really want induction.

Regardless, I don't know if I even have an option to replace my old unit without replacing the countertops as well. We have Corian counters that I eventually want to replace, just not yet. The unit is on a peninsula, the downdraft vents through the slab below. I have lighting above the unit, so not anxious to replace with a hood exhaust, at least not until we're ready to splurge for a full remodel.

Any suggestions? Am I stuck with my JennAir? Is it worth fixing? The fan only comes on if I turn on the grill, otherwise I never use the grill (with the griddle plate on top). The elements are the old coil type (which I think I can replace, but I don't want the glass top radiant surface). No gas supply available in our neighborhood.

Sorry this is long, but thanks for any suggestions.
