Red transferware, red wine and romance (pic)

Hubby and I are empty nesters now. Somehow, he managed to agree to teach CCD again, and is now off doing that. When he returns, this is what he will find waiting for him. Dinner is tenderloin steaks, sauteed spinach, sweet potatoes and a very nice red wine. We're enjoying our couple time again:

A very lovely and romantic setting, with a yummy dinner too!
Who could want more? I'm sure DH must have been pleasently surprised and appreciative. It's nice to enjoy being an 'empty nester' ..and why not...We've earned it!!
I love your china..what 's the pattern? I've been a White Ironstone and Blue & White collector for so long, and this past year, I started collecting Pink Transferware.
Yours is really pretty along with the S&P and Pitcher.

I can't see any reason that would negate air heating the bulbs to 115F (just over 46C, the minimum temperature I have seen advised for HWT). While 115F was one recommended temperature for the treatment, the same source states in the text, that mites are killed at temperatures over 100F. But isn't there the possibility that some dehydration that might/would occur using heated air? If they were heated in a humid atmosphere, that would seem to counter act any moisture loss. I'm thinking that the relative humidity at treatment time might be something to consider. I have wondered how hot my bulbs get while in the sun on a 95+F day and think that it must help to thwart any mites that might be there to some degree. V. Read reports, in her book, that commercially, the Dutch treat bulbs immediately after lifting and drying. She says that the bulbs are more vulnerable to floral damage just after the 10-12 week cool period at 13C(55F). She states that the Dutch treat with temps of 47-48C (117-118F) for 120 minutes. She says that the HWT is more effective when the bulbs are allowed to cool naturally. In her version of the home treatment, she describes treating growing plants, and doesn't say to wait till the end of the season. (She describes cutting the foliage back to 10cm (4"). After treatment, they are then dried fully and given the "cool period" dormancy at 13C (55F) for 8-10 weeks before replanting. So depending on when you do this, it could correspond with the Dutch method unless done mid-season or earlier, forcing the dormancy--not necessarily good for the developing buds. I am so glad all of you enjoyed that gal's decor as much as I did. I'd NEVER have thought of using Transferware pieces like that in the bathroom on the counter. Since I'm nuts about plates, I'd put them anywhere tho. LOL. Her floral arrangement over the mirror is my very favorite. I'd love to do something similar to mine. I have a long counter, tho its L-shaped. My mirror has no space above it for plates or anything, but I could do a floral garland along the top easily. (in fact I do for Christmas). I still can't believe she has a BIG warehouse FULL of just transferware. Bet the Greenie Monster attacked a bunch of you on that part. I can just see all your DHs being told to look what she got for her dishes! LOL. OA, the wording on my new platter is interesting. Some is printed, some is script, some looks like actual handwriting. And it says all different kind of stuff, even to being latin names for some of the butterflies and plants. The two bluish marks on the top left are realistic postal "stamps". Cindy, I forgot to tell you how pretty your house is:) I have seen vines being trained on a string....you just attach it to the house where you want it to go. I saw the most beautiful pic somewhere of ivy being trained on a big brick wall in a harlequin pattern. Another thought I had....you window above the door - could you paint the trim around the window the same color as your door? All of your other windows have stone trim(darker). You could also maybe paint the arch trim around the door. I am thinking this would give it a more cohesive look to your house - 2 big urns with plants & your done. I also really like that plum color that Lindy last posted, too. Smiles:)

Thanks all for your sweet comments. To answer your questions: Slinky the pattern on the plates is Johnson Brothers Asiatic Pheasant. The other pieces are JB Old British Castles. Mo, CCD=Catholic religious education. My hubby is teaching 6th grade.
