My freezer on the Elux is ok. It works for us. The key is it really keeps things frozen. It has a top drawer which is mesh. The ice bin is on he left side. I store our city compost bin in the top drawer plus whatever I dump in from the fridge. The bottom section is divided but the divider can be moved. I keep frozen liqueurs(sp - my eyes are not awake yet) on the left and my smoothie fruit and veggies on the right. I also store a half gallon of ice cream. It does have a tip out rack which can hold box foods -pizza, veggies, pot pies but I put blue ice in the rack The freezer keeps things solid including the ice cream. I do have a bigger basement freezer as I freeze a ton of fruit and veggies and tend to buy on sale.

I went with Elux about 4 years ago and it has been great. No water through the door but do have an icemaker in the freezer. I got a good deal on it - 20% rebate at the time so in the same price range as some of the more common ones - but then upgraded to the LED lighting and the perfect temp drawer - Love it. I can even bring ice cream to serving temperature in the drawer as well as keep meat quite cold - or even "defrost" at 40 degrees (it automatically goes back to a colder temp after 8 hours)

Making the cabinets deeper on the fridge wall would allow you to put deeper upper cabinets there as well - not a bad thing. I do have other concerns about your layout, however. Where do the doors go? It looks like your cooktop is in a traffic path, if that door in the lower left is used much. So is your wall oven. Switching the peninsula to the other side - extending from the bottom of your drawing instead of the top - helps to direct traffic to the other side of the island - but creates a whole new set of problems, like trapping the fridge in a corner. Where will you keep dishes and glasses? It doesn't look like you have any space near the DW.

We drink a lot of water and ice but I didn't like any of the ice-in-the-door french doors fridges that I saw. I also worried about the frequent complaints I heard about through the door ice dispensers breaking. I decided to get a Fisher & Paykel CD fridge with the icemaker inside the freezer. It does take up room in the freezer but we have a large chest freezer in the basement for overflow. I worried that scooping the ice out would be inconvenient because we use a lot of ice, but it's turned out to be fine. And the water dispenser doesn't eat up fridge space. By now I've pretty much memorized what is on which side in the fridge so I don't usually open both doors. The only thing I don't like is that you have to open both doors to access the fruit and veggie bins. For me it's not much of an issue because I keep all the veggies in the fridge drawer in my prep area.
