Sharp R-930 Microwave (where can I see it)

Has anyone had any luck purchasing/finding this microwave in a local store or have you had to buy it online? I would like to see it in person before purchasing it. Thanks in advance.

I am surprised by your question. The Sharp R-930 microwave is one of their best-selling models. You didn't say which finish you want (white, black, stainless). In any case, have you looked in your local big box stores or your local appliance stores?

Of course, not every store will have it in stock--you should call first. But you should be able to find it.

I'm not surprised by this question. In my area neither Target nor Walmart sells convection micros, only plain micros, and HD doesn't sell any countertop appliances at all.

Read the posting: Convection Microwaves (quality and appearance). Also, if money is not a problem look into the Miele Speed Oven ($2,000+) or the Advantium 240. From what I've seen, the Miele does it all, and exceptionally well. (It even has real exposed broiler elements on the top of the machine that no other has!) These two are in a totally different league than the convection/microwaves of Sharp and Panasonic! Also go to each brand's website and download the PDF use and care booklets which will give you a real picture of what the machine does, and how it does it

I know they aren't hoods. What I need to know is if they have a cooling fan in them, and if so, where it exhausts to. I downloaded the installation instructions, and they warn against blocking the vents on the rear of the unit. Since the microwave mounts virtually right against the wall, and a cabinet is expected to be mounted above the unit, how is air expected to move out of these vents? Any natural flow would have to go up, which will be blocked. It seems like there might be a potential for condensation in that small space between the rear of the unit and the wall. Then again, maybe there is a fan that keeps condensation from happening. The manual doesn't say. I am hoping that someone who has one installed can enlighten me.

"I was hoping this would be good for when there's just a small something to be heated (non-microwave) like rolls or breaded chicken cutlet, or, as i said melted cheese or toasting pine nuts. Does that sound like a reasonable expectation?" It would be fine for either, and for a MW it has a great deal of space (we use it for popovers on a 10.5"X13.5" muffin tin which can turn on the carousel). We use the dual convec/MW for faster baking, roasting and more even and faster defrosting than MW alone. It's turned out to have more uses than we'd anticipated, and we use it more than our larger gas range oven--less energy, lower heat output and faster preheat.

This was a concern of mine too with our 2 different colors and I posted here as well. Got a few comments stating it wasn't worth worring about, and one person even stated on another post that it was the most ridiculous thing she had ever read on these forum (and someone else agreed). Honestly, it's been 2 years and I don't even notice it anymore, nor does anyone else. In hindsight, it was pretty silly. So, my answer is not to worry about it.

Sorry...when I did a Google search and pulled up locations to buy this from the only store I came across was Best Buy (this was from the shopping link that Google pulls up). I went to a Best Buy store and they did not have any on the shelf, showed all stores to have 0 inventory and and none in the warehouse. Said it would be a special order. I kind of assumed at that point it was an online purchase kind of thing.....guess I shouldn't "assume"!

It's my turn to say sorry. I guess my area has them on the shelves at the various Big Box stores, and I've seen it at my local appliance store. Writersblock has a point that the availability must vary by region.

You could also ask your local Home Depot to order it for you so you can see it. If you don't like it, I don't think they'll make you buy it (check first though).
