Miele Inspira DW Rinse Aid Leaking

I have an almost three year old Miele Inspira II. It's an awesome machine and I like it very much. One day I started having trouble with suds in the dishwasher, not tons, just enough to cause trouble. I bailed it out a few times, and eventually tracked the problem down to a problem with the rinse aid compartment. Apparently the rinse aid dispenser is leaking. I rinsed it out and did not refill it, and the sudsing problem stopped. However, nothing gets dry without the rinse aid, so I'm looking into getting it fixed. It's not under warranty anymore. I could call a technician, but thought I'd check for advice here first. Has anyone had experience with this? Is it possible to fix this myself? I've been looking online for advice and parts but have come up empty. It doesn't seem like this should be rocket science. The dispenser for the rinse aid and detergent is one unit with two spring loaded doors on it. If I have to I'll pay to have someone come out and look at it, but if there is something I can do, I'd rather try that first.

I don't know how to fix it, however, whenever I've been stumped I go to justanswer.com and ask my question there. You have to pay $10 or so for your question, but an expert will contact you to help out.

Just a thought.

try repairclinic.com and see if they have the part you need. They will also give you install advice.

You know, they're both fine DWs. The important thing is, they load differently. Have you taken a 'sample box' in to an actual display where you can see if odd-sized dishes and pots/pans/casseroles/baking sheets will fit? I was perfectly open to buying a Miele, KA or F&P Dishdrawers. But when I tried to fit really big items or thick potteryware - the KA was the only one that was going to work for me. My KA is a different model but has the Pro Wash. On mine it works only in the 2 back rows on the bottom rack, with items facing in reverse (towards the back rather than towards the front). It works really well - I do a lot of cheese-encrusted casseroles and it gets the casserole sparkling clean - but there's a couple of things that are just a little too tall to fit in easily. I've noticed here that many people discuss the right detergent to use with the Miele. It seems a little fussier about that than the KA, I'm not sure why. I know that for DWs without food grinders it's important to use the enzyme-based detergent. THe only detergent I've had a problem with on the KA was a 'green' brand that was just awful. Otherwise I've used powders and gels of different brands, and they've all worked just fine.

The salt used in the dishwasher never mixes with the water used to wash and rinse the dishes - no need to worry about that. As a matter of fact, you can use salt, very hot water and aluminum foil to clean silverware. RE: rinse aid. Well, Miele says in their manuals that you can use vinegar or citric acid in place of rinse aid - but results won't be as good as when using real rinse aid. I am currently using Electrasol/Finish Turbo Dry, which is pretty good. I actually have the dispenser set to the lowest setting, which equals about one teaspoon of rinse aid in the final rinse. There are also detergents with rinse aid substitute available but these products don't work as well as rinse aid. How about Ecover (or such) biological rinse aid? Ultimately, you could also have a Miele tech raise the final rinse temp on your dishwasher to compromise for the lack of rinse aid - if noting else works. HTH, Alex

My mistake. I had a Touchtronic, not a Novotronic. Not sure where my mind went on that. I had one of the 800 series. I miss it. Well, the saga continues. The little connector came in and the repairman came last week to put it on my dishwasher. I wasn't home when he fixed it (I was out of town), so I don't know if he actually tested it, but I discovered that the detergent door STILL isn't opening. SO, I put in another call to Miele. They were very nice to make sure someone came out the next day. This time they sent a senior tech to diagnose (honestly, I think they thought I was nuts). He came today, spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out what was wrong. Finally discovered that when the rinse aid leaked into the wire, in addition to eating the wire, it shorted out one part of the computer. But of course that part wasn't on the truck. Soooo, here's hoping that when the computer gets replaced, it will all work again.

I have the G2830 LaPerla similar to the Excella. Detergents: I alternate and use a different one each week. I use powder - Electrasol with chlorine bleach(non enzyme), or Cascade Complete(enzyme). I had a disaster with Seventh Generation powder which left grit all over everything including the insides of the dw. I use Liquid Gels - Cascade Complete Gel. I don't use Electrasol Gel because it left a film all over everything. I use tabs - Miele tabs (1/2 to full tab depending on soil level), or Electrasol Red ball tabs, or Electrasol tabs with Jet dry, or Cascade Action Pacs or Electrasol Gel pacs. No problem with any of these. When using Gels I set the detergent selector to Liquid. When using Tabs I keep the detergent selector set to powder. Most powders, tabs, gels and pacs contain enzymes. Electrasol tabs and Gel pacs contain enzymes. Electrasol powder and Gel in the bottle do not. Finish/Electrasol has released their Quantum tab to the USA, although I haven't been able to find it in stores where I live. Rinse Aid: I use Jet dry Green apple with vinegar, I use Jet dry turbo, I use Miele Rinse Aid. I alternate when filling the dispenser. All of these work the same. Salt: I use Somat salt or Miele salt. Both work the same. My Dw measures the water hardness when filling as does the Excella. Like PQ said you can find your hardness in the settings menu. If the DW needs salt I think it will ask for it and if the water is consistently below 4 it won't ask. The softener adjusts the the hardness automatically and only softens the water to the extent it needs to during each fill. Between May and October my water hardness was averaging 19 gpg and the Dw performed the softener step(periodically performed before the first prewash, to regenerate the softener) every other week while asking for salt at least once. Now the hardness is down to 2gpg and there has been not been any softener step performed nor has it asked for salt.

I just checked my Optima, it's about 7 years old, so I don't know if the rinse aid dispenser is the same, but first thing I would try is cleaning the dispenser very thoroughly. Mine has a large circular rubber seal that fits against the plastic ring on the dispenser door, so maybe some crystals or whatever have built up? The circular rubber ring is solid on mine, (Not an O-ring) and it lifts right out for cleaning.

You could fill the dispenser with some colored soap or whatever and that "Might tell you" where it is leaking.
Without starting the DW, just fill that reservoir, shut the door, leave it for an hour so so, then come back and see if you see any of whatever you used to test it, sitting on the inside of the door.

Hope this works! Ours still continues to operate flawlessly, alto it has had an easy life, (Only used once or twice a Month).

t has not had an easy life, and it still cleans beautifully, I'm just missing the rinse aid. :-)

Well after looking around Fixit etc, I tried googling Miele Dishwasher Jet dry leak, I really did not turn up anything worth while, sorry. But I did turn up a post by a lady that put dishwashing detergent in her jet dry dispenser by mistake, and it was a bit of a pita to get it out, so be careful there, dont fill that succer up with soap!
Maybe if you leave the door closed and just the jet dry in it, maybe you will be able to spot it , if it's leaking onto the inside of the door?

Was your Jet dry dispenser similar to mine, or did Miele completely change the design?

I had a similar problem - it was under warranty and Miele replaced it - but put me on to Miele tablets and the tech turned off the rinse aid - so I assume it still works but with the tablets (and some folks have found even better tablets) I don't need the rinse aid.

LOL Gary, I saw that post by the person who filled that reservoir with soap. That would so not be pretty. I'm pretty sure that it's a similar style to yours. There is one long unit across the door, with two spring loaded doors. The seal on the rinse aid reservoir looks like the one you described. What I think is happening is that the rinse aid is leaking out of the bottom of the plastic unit. I'm hesitant to put anymore rinse aid in there, because it's such a total pain in the rear to get all the suds out of the DW when it gets overdosed with the rinse aid.

Thanks for looking it up for me, though, much appreciated. I like your idea of putting a colored liquid into it--I might through some food coloring into some water and put it through, just to see what happens. I wish mine was still under warranty, but it's out by a good bit, even though we did have a Miele tech install it, so we got two years. I'm going to see if I can find out how the thing is attached to the door. Maybe that will give me an idea of where the problem lies.

Did you see the post, where one person went to the Jet dry that you hang?
Maybe worth trying if the fix looks too expensive?

Others say the Miele tabs have the jet dry in them and
therefore you don't need the one you are using now,
but I bet those Miele tabs aren't cheep?

I had never thought of the jet dry that you hang...I'm going to see if I can find one and give that a spin. Otherwise, I'll just suck it up and hire someone to fix it.

Buffalotina (A GW Member) had the same problem, CJ and I think the same model as yours.

She replaced that seal we were talking about, (the round one), and guess what!!!! That solved her problem. Miele even sent her the seal for free, You just have to contact the "Right Lady" at Miele, the Gents there were a PITA!!!
