need some ideas? re: baby shower

My daughter will be helping to host a baby shower. She would like some ideas on decorating the tables. The theme will be sports. All kinds. Also she would like to make molded chocolates (baseball mitt, ball, bat, football, hockey stick, basketball, etc.) to use as her favors. She needs ideas on how to display them. Thanks for your help.

No idea, how did she come up with a sports theme? I can't wait to see other posters ideas and to see what she comes up with.

Please be sure to take pics at the shower of the tables and post a pic here so we can see how it turned out. I've never been to a baby shower that had any type of theme, other than baby.

I am guessing the expected one is a boy :)
As far as the chocolate lollypops and a way to display them.
Have her go to the dollar store or a few other stores looking to see if she can find some coffee mugs that are sports related (this way they get a take home gift). Take the sports mug and put styrofoam in it, then poke in the end part of the stick of the chocolate lollypops into the styrofoam. Cover the stryofoam with the shredded plastic or paper in your color theme that you can find at Walmart and most dollar stores. Then as a place card, you can attach a name tag with your guests name on it (either make the tag with the special cutters they have out in the scrapbook stores or cut it out with the scalloped scissors they sell at the craft store, then use a one hole punch to put a hole at the top of the tag, attach the tag to the mug with ribbon and you are set. As for the rest of the table, you can set up a centerpiece with a layout of sports equipment (football, baseball etc)

Another popular thing these days is to do cupcakes as the main dessert. You can find inexpensive cupcake stands at Walmart, Michaels Arts and Crafts etc. The cupcake stand makes a nice center piece too. HTHs

At a recent bridal shower we played "Bingo" - each guest got a homemade Bingo card, center square "free" and in each of the other boxes you had to write in what you thought the future bride might receive as gifts at the shower. I just had a baby shower for my daughter. We passed around ribbon and each guest cut one as long as they thought they needed to go around my daughter's tummy. Was fun to actually measure them and we saved the pieces of ribbon that they cut. Each person signed their piece of ribbon too and we saved them for her babybook! I made some premade scrapbooking pages that would include pieces of advice from each person attending. When I sent out the invites, I included the small cards for them to think of something to write to the baby or my daughter...advice for them! Something that my daughter and her daughter can look over whenever they want. A great way to include the guests/friends into her baby scrapbook! I bought some "babies" made out of blankets and sleepers on Ebay and they were adorable. The theme was Sugar and Spice, everything nice.....and it was worked into the menu.....lots of sweet(small cakes, molded mints, etc) and even some spicey appetizers! And almost everything was PINK! Just was fun! And of course...........LOTS of pictures! Just a wonderful memory made.......and expressions of support for my daughter! I hope you had fun.......and that YOU had time to enjoy it all! Here's a fun one!! I love this game. It utilizes various candy/candy bars. It's essentially a match/memory game. You'll create a board with 30 squares, each numbered 1-30. Under each number (they'll need to be removable cards), you'll place the 'description/word' of something related to pregnancy/baby (each will be in 2 places - see list below for words). You'll go around the room and have a person pick 2 numbers. If they get a match, they win the candy corresponding to that description. If they don't get a match, the words get covered back up again. It's up to each player to remember what words were under which numbers. Here is the list of descriptions and their candy. Baby Name - Baby Ruth Twins - Mike & Ike Triplets - Three Muskateers Ob/Gyn - Butterfinger Big Baby - Whoppers Hemmerhoids - Hot Tamales Epidural - Lifesavers Umbilical Cord - Red Vines (or Twizzlers) Conception - SKOR Preemie - Runts Breastfeeding - Milky Way Engorged Breasts - Mounds Cost to have a baby - 100 Grand Mommy Nap Time - Take Five Baby Daddy - Sugar Daddy We played this game at my shower, it was so fun. Our list was slightly different but I couldn't remember all of them so I found some others online. If there's any candy you can't find, just make the list shorter and use less numbers on your board. Memory quilt ideas for baby shower

I hosted a baby shower for my sister a couple of years ago. As one of the shower activities, I wanted to make a quilt for the baby. I gave each guest a piece of fabric. Solid yellow. 8.5" square. Gave them fabric markers and had them write a message on there for the baby, to be made into a quilt. Told them to leave 1" margin all the way around. Had them sign their names, as the baby would know them. Made that into a quilt that was presented at the baby's christening a few months later. Since we didn't know if it would be a boy or girl, I used homespun plaids for the sashing, and small florals for the cornerstones. It was a boy, and his parents love plaid, so that was a good guess. The corner blocks served as the labels. In one corner, I put the baby's name, birth date, time & weight. Another corner, the date of the shower. Another corner, date of the christening. Last corner was my own block for the saying I wanted to write. And I put care instructions on the back, in case the quilt ever ends up in a dorm room. My sister told me that they plan to hang the quilt on the wall. I need to add a hanging sleeve. My sister does not sew much.

If you go with cupcakes, check these out. They're not real fancy, but they go with the theme and, best of all, they look like they're not too hard to decorate.
The chocolate-pops-in-a-cup is a great idea for your candies and for the place tags.

You can display gifts (or food) on a tablecloth that looks like a football field.

Borrow some trophies (the kind that have a two-handled, long stemmed cup sitting on a wooden block) and fill with cascading greenery and flowers for centerpieces.

Is the baby born yet? You might be able to superimpose his image onto a fake Sports Illustrated Sportsman-of-the-Year cover and have it made into a poster.
