All I recommend doing is going to see the products for yourself. You can go to a local appliance store, or if nearby, you should check out a showroom. I know Sub-Zero/Wolf has showrooms around the country, not sure about the others.

These companies may have cooking demonstrations as well. You should seach their websites to find out more.

I've had that Wolf cooktop for five years now and I love it!

To pick the right one for you, you'll have to think back and remember how often you needed 6 burners vs how often you had multiple size pots simmering. If you often make large quantities of pasta or boiled lobsters or corn on the cob(or steam a lot of clams or crabs), having the higher BTU output may be very useful to you.

Thanks all for the replies. appliance_3264, I have seen all of these cooktops, I'm looking for real world feedback from end users, not a showroom experience. Gibby3000, do you use large pots on the Wolf much? My wife has some great stovetop dutch oven recipes but her Le Creuset dutch oven takes up a lot of real estate, so I wonder how well the Wolf is suited to that vs the GE with the offset burner.

I like to hear the feedback from others vs. an in-store demonstration as well. I have none of those but am planning to buy a wolf 6 burner rangetop. My thinking is, while I'm not completely "into" all the great brands just yet, I will not regret the wolf down the road but I might regret the Monogram (thinking, why didn't I just get the wolf.) If you said money is not an object, I'd say get the wolf - and I'm sure you can shuffle around the pans to make it work.

I have the 36" Bertazzoni cooktop. I'm very happy with it. I've never used 6 at a time, but have used 5. I originally planned to get a Dacor 5 burner, but found the Bertazzoni was about $500 cheaper.

I have that huge Le Creuset dutch oven right now on the simmer burner. It does take up a lot of room, but I can use the burners around it with smaller pans - I couldn't use my seriously huge Le Creuset frying pan next to it, for example.
I tend to move pots around from burner to burner: do the initial cooking on the front, then move a pot to the back to finish, while I work on the next thing, for example, and for that I really love the continuous grids.
I have had no trouble stir-frying on the left hand burner, but I'm only cooking small quantities (if I cook a Chinese meal, I make lots of small dishes to share, not one huge one). I got a second simmer ring to use on the inner ring of the double burner, because I make a lot of sauces and often use both simmer burners. (I emailed Bertazzoni in Italy to ask about it and they sent it to me for free, which was great customer support!)
I'm running it on propane and am very happy with the results. It's incredibly easy to clean - really, just a 'light duty' white scrubby sponge, water, and polish it off with a microfibre cloth.
I like the knobs at the side, because I was concerned about pans of boiling water catching on them and scalding me. Over-reaction perhaps, but I'm pretty safety-minded.
I know some people prefer all 6 rings to be equal in power, but it hasn't been an issue for me - in reality, most cooking is done at lower temperatures anyway, unless you fry a lot.
That's about all I can think of right now, but if you have further questions post again and I'll try and address them. I really think, dollar for dollar, the Bertazzoni is a very good price with great performance. We cook everything from scratch, every day, so it's been well used. 2 years old now.

Hi,I'm also seriously considering the Wolf and Monogram 36" cooktops. I just took a couple of my pots to a store today and tried them on the Wolf and Monogram. I had my big All-Clad 12" everything pan with long handle and a 12" skillet The both fit on the cooktops easily with room to spare. With the Wolf the biggest burner is the front left, so lots of room for more pots to the right. I normally use 3 burners for an average family meal. I only need 4 or 5 for gourmet nights. I also looked at the DCS. DCS also worked with my pots, but I decided the finish and knobs and stainless quality just seemed lower grade. I like the Wolf for it's heavy grates and big sturdy knobs. It just "feels" good (and I'm not swayed by the name.) I think performance on both will be comparable, although Wolf top burner is 15,000 btu, and Monogram is 18,000. The wolf will cost me about $500 more than Monogram. I'm having a hard time deciding. I didn't even look at a Bertazzoni. What am I missing?
