Anyone else starting fall decorating?

Okay, I finally left this computer off this afternoon and got busy with some decorating. I had pulled it all out of the shed on Sunday. It still feels a little early to me--has just barely started to cool off finally--think I usually wait until October.

Unless I do some more tweaking (or buy some other stuff), I've almost got the box window done, the mantle is done, coffee table done, end table done, and now working on some stacked plates for the buffet. I will have pics to share with you all in the next day or two. I even used some orange lights I had on hand in the box window and on the mantle, so those areas look pretty neat at night too.

I even put a wreath as a centerpiece on the kitchen table and put some fall placemats out. For right now, the goldfish bowl and stand are residing in the center of the centerpiece! LOL I'll show you a pic. Was thinking that I need a nice fall candle to go in there.

However,I used all the garlands inside that I normally put on the front patio. Have to decide whether I need to go buy more garland for out there or not. Put Ms. Crow in her spot by the door again. I still love her. I posted pics of her last year so you have all seen her and my wooden painted scarecrow guy.

I worked for about three hours, was tired when I got all the regular things stashed away and could finally sit down with my new painting mag and a cola to relax! Whew!

So whatcha all been doing?

WOW....you AMBITIOUS Woman! Way to go! I can't wait to see all the photos you are going to share with us. I'm still just in the "thinking" stage, with a trip to Michaels planned this week since their Fall stuff is 50% off.

Campanula, I ordered from tuincentrum lottum too ( I must send email, when they will be sending orders). If you want Petrovic roses, you can order it on this website, but you must translate page to English first : http://www.vrtnicekodele.si/ I know the owner and she told me, that sometimes she sends rose orders to other EU countries (but I do not know about UK). She arranges all required legal papers for import from Serbia to EU. Melissa, I first ordered from PetroviÃÂ last year. Mostly OGRs and some Austins. I ordered bourbons, hyb. perpetuals and teas. In our country there are many rose lovers, who have PetroviÃÂ roses for some years now and his roses are highly praised. Campanula, I ordered roses from UK last year (Peter Beales) and they were travelling for almost two weeks. When I finally received them, they were not in best condition, but despite this, they are growing pretty well. This year I ordered from Trevor White. Arlene, seeds I avoid winter sowing at all are tender annuals, vegetables or any seed that only needs 7 to 10 days warm temperatures to germinate. Down here that would be not only a waste of time but a sure recipe for failure because we have stretches of mild winter days with periods of very warm temperatures and very little snow. I sow tiny seeds by picking them up with a barely damp finger and pressing them into the soil and then firm it gently down but I make sure its firm. I use 4" square plastic pots with snack bags on top, those fit real tight and are short enough to keep from sagging down on the soil. You can pick up the whole pot by the tight fitting bag. Its real easy to sow too thickly so I do these seeds more carefully than larger ones, those I just space out on the top and use a dull pencil to bury to the correct depth and then firm down the soil. Otherwise you end up with crowded seeds coming up in a solid mass thats a mess to deal with in spring and plants that are competing or need pricking out. For me, this is much easier than messing with milk jugs when sowing and even more convenient when transplanting. Each pot might have 4 or five plants which I just tamp out and divide in spring. These pots fit nicely into flats which makes carrying them easier and if they dry out, I simply set them in shallow water. Usually I only have to do that once or twice in winter. I keep them under our car port where it stays clean and cool on warmer days. Its all a matter of what fits best for each person and their climate. I just store seeds in a dark dry place in a box, not the refrigerator, especially not for fresh seeds that only need to be stored a couple months.

I sow indoors under lights and I only have one book case tops worth of space to do it in - so I start very early and rotate the trays until it gets warm enough to sow outdoors. Right now I have a mix of lettuce growing. Before that I had arugula and spinach (some of it is outside in the ground the rest is cooling off in the hoophouse). Next up will be garden peas but I don't keep them inside very long. I just soak them and set them up to sprout, then get them in the ground. I will also be sowing some poppies since I never got them sown in the ground. Tomatoes, peppers and eggplants will come later in March or even early April. I build a temporary greenhouse in the garden each winter out of pvc pipe and plastic sheeting (hoophouse). I only keep it above freezing and basically use it to store large tropicals and potted plants that the squirrels would destroy if I left them out in plain view. I have a ton of seedlings and rooted cuttings potted up in there that were either started inside the house last fall or started last year. Rhubarb roots are sprouting, Delphinium seedlings are filling out, left over onion sets are thriving as are loquat seedlings. In the ground I have cabbage and collard babies (these will probably bolt as soon as it warms up since they got planted late and never took off); and onions, spinach and arugula.

Too funny Kswl! All solids? I've never really thought about that but I wear a ton of prints, florals, stripes, etc. I do love my solids to wear my scarves with. I love scarves and wear them often in cooler weather. I have a couple of gauzy ones I will wear in spring/summer. If I don't have a scarf on I will more than likely have on a funky necklace. One thing I will note, I do not wear black up against my face. Too stark and washes me out. I do not wear yellows, oranges (I HATE orange but love a pinky coral), browns, mossy greens, etc. (earth tones) other than some shades of brown pants. Thankfully those colors do not look good on me. I don't use them in our home either! Lynn, I had my colors done years ago and I am a winter. I don't think black is drab at all. It's fashionable! But of course, it makes a difference what you wear with your black.

Well I have gourds in a big wooden bowl on the coffee table in the living(thank you ladies for the cleaning hints!!) I have the dry sink decorated with various woodland animals etc. (thank you Judith and all for the ideas :^) I have taken down all of the summer stuff, but have not yet replaced it with the fall items. I located my fall flags, windsocks and gate signs....I just don't have them hung yet!
But, I'm workin' on it all!

It is WORK, isn't it Jaybird? LOL But at least it is fun work. I just keep 2nd guessing myself and moving things around until they finally look okay. Then I worry that I might have "overdone" it. Oh well, at least I'm trying to add some excitement and color for the holidays.

Glad you mentioned your flag--I need to change mine out too.

Hoped to work on my stacked plates today but DH says we should go to the LA County Fair. I like that too. They always have a section with tablescapes that are always so great. I'll take my camera if we go, so maybe I can get some pics to share.

Jaybird, your decorating sounds so nice--sure wish you could share pics too.

Karen, thanks for the heads up at Michaels--might try to get over there too.

I haven't done anything yet...its just killing me, but I am getting ready to have my old/new couch picked up, and will get a new one at the end of the month (this one is smaller and fits my space better. So I am holding off until it gets in place. I did pick up some of the cute litte gourds and mini pumpkins at Walmart today, I'll use them on the dining table meanwhile.

I am a fall fanatic! I decorated about two weeks ago. lol I live in Texas and we definitely do NOT have fall weather here, but i'm anxiously awaiting it.

I'm also a Halloween freak. hehe I decorate for that on October 1st, however, this year i'm getting very antsy and wanting to go ahead and do it. We'll see, I just may. I have a little fall display in my front yard with a hay bale, scarecrows, foliage, and orange lights. I also lined my flower bed with scarecrows and put a strand of faux leaves on my fence.

Inside I haven't done too much, just put fall window clings on from the Dollar Tree and some fall colored foliage around.

I will take the summer down, Thurs..and hope to get some things up for the "Autuminal equinox" as my calendar puts it.
I did go to Michael's today, and got some of the pumpkins, 50 off. I got 2 whites and an orange one to bring to a friend . I didn't really have time to look, dh was in the car waiting...

Welcome Jsupanich, glad to have you joining in. Your outside decorations sound great, sure wish you had pics to share with us, we loooove pics! ;o)

I'm not too big on Halloween, especially the scary stuff since GD is only three. Maybe when she gets older. I do like the not so scary and cute things. Just add a few of them to my Fall decor when the time comes.

Didn't get to the fair today--DH woke up with a sore leg so thought he had better stay off it as much as possible today. I did do a bit of painting, worked on a couple of wood signs with pumpkins on them. I sure am out of practice, haven't held a paint brush in too long!

Judith, know you will enjoy the new couch. Always nice to have more room, and I am sure it will look great in the room too.

Kathleen, know you are really busy right now with the luncheon and all. Glad you were able to get some pumpkins while they are on sale.

Karen, I've snapped a few pics, and more to come. Be patient--I'm retired so don't know how to hurry anymore! LOL Here's a pic of Ms. Crow and my scarecrow--I'm sure you will remember them.

Kathleen, isn't there a rule about taking a DH to Michaels?
Not a problem for me however, mine wouldn't go in the first place. LOL.
I am doing Walmart tomorrow so will try to hit Michaels Thurs if I can still walk. (wish that was joke but it's not). I want some white pumpkins and I want to make a pumpkin topiary like those in the photos!
I'm getting antsy to decorate but can't till the weekend or next week. At least this week it's FINALLY under 100s. It would be nice if it would stay that way. Tho 99 isn't all that much improved. LOL.

Karen~ I have never done a Halloween tree, sounds interesting though. I have an almost 5 year old and a 14 month old so I can't do half as much decorating as I would like. lol

Welcome jsupanich - Jessica!!!! It is GREAT to have another Texan...where are you???I'm deep in the heart of Texas and yes it is still HOT!!! They keep promisin' and promisin'.....oh well, pretty soon you will hear me complaining because I'm cold!!!
I am working on fall stuff too, but it's not as nice as yours!!
Glad to have you here....you couldn't have picked a more fun place to visit!

Jessica, I'm no expert, but if you are on photobucket already, it will be really easy.

Just click the box for the pic or pics you want to share. Then go all the way to the bottom of the page and select the option on the far right for generate img and html code. It will take you to the next page. There you just right click on the first option, select "copy". Then come back to your post on the forum, right click and select "paste." Your pics will show up after you hit the "preview message" button.

We will look forward to seeing more of your decorating.

Yeah, you did it! And your items are so cute! I love Dollar Tree and try to stop in there often.

Didn't see those at mine last week, had better go check again soon. They did have some really cute ceramic pumpkins as well as the plastic or foam ones.

Now that you've got the hang of posting the pics, hope you will have lots more to share with us.
