Just curious... were you looking at the Kohler Wellworth? We are in the process of designing/building our home, and that is the toilet we chose for our bathrooms. You can find it at Home Depot under model # 3481-U-O. This is the Wellworth toilet with the insuliner tank. It lists on the website at $327.98. We found it pretty hard to find any model with an insulated tank. Hope this helps!

I was actually looking at the Cimarron or Highline models, and apparently neither is available with an insulated tank anymore. I wonder why they've eliminated this option? They've lost at least one customer (me!) because of it.

I'm now leaning toward the Toto Drake, which gets very good reviews online, but am curious what others here like.

Hook it up to the HW line if it's that bad. Or use an immersion heater (aquarium)with the thermostat turned down.

I am a fan of the Toto Drake. There is no longer a need to have a plunger in my bathroom, I am very happy to lose that.

I have a Toto UltraMax. So far I love it. The toilet it replaced, a cheap toilet from the early 70's, regularly overflowed to the point where my DH would just leave the plunger out and couldn't understand why I had a problem with that. This Toto UltraMax flushes very fast, and does its job like an expert. Woohoo!

It also has the SanaGloss finish, which is supposed to help keep it clean, but I quick-swish my toilet bowl every day (per FlyLady), so I can't attest to any magical powers the SanaGloss might possess. I am going on vacation with my sister soon and DH is staying here alone, so I may be able to comment on the SanaGloss properties after I've been away a couple of weeks.

tradewind, my UltraMax replaced a 1981 Kohler toilet. Maybe 8-10 overflows 26 years, but, it just took so long for it to flush, used so much water and would sometimes have to be flushed more than once. Our new bathroom has been completed for 5 months and I STILL shake my head (in wonderment) and sigh each time I flush the UltraMax...I feel so blessed (lol)

I just finished toilet shopping, and was also considering the Kohler Cimmaron, which my friend just loves. Well, I found this wonderful website: www.terrylove.com; he's a plumber and has his customers rate different toilets. Toto Drake seems to be the best. I really wanted a retro look, but after reading what people have to say about the Toto Drake (and not great things about the Cimmaron), I'm getting the Drake even though it is NOT retro-looking. Many people on that website said they wished they could take their toilet back and get a Drake. They are back-ordered everywhere, and a little hard to find, but I'm going to wait. I think it'll be worth it!

Oh, they have better toilets that are more expensive or noisier, but the Drake is a good, cheap, quiet toilet. Read the customer comments and decide for yourself.

I am just about to install the Toto Soiree. I can't speak to the flushing yet, but it looks great in the box!

What is everyones take on two piece toliets vs. one piece? The toliets everyone loves seem to be in two pieces but have heard reports about people complaining of dirt in the crease. Thanks.

I'm also about to install the Toto Soiree (Callieandkarin-let me know how yours goes!). Toto has gotten the best reviews when I did my own search. Almost went with the Ultramax but my girlfriend prefers the look of the soiree. Kohler, although well known, has not always gotten the best reviews. Personally, the toilet is one place I am not looking for cheap

After needing a plunger 1-2x week for years, we replaced an American Standard with a Toto Drake about 3 months ago and, well, perfection! Can't believe we didn't do this earlier. We're about to start remodeling our 2 other bathrooms and one will have a Duravit Stark 3 ($200 at a warehouse sale--couldn't resist) and the other a Toto Nexus. Can't speak to their flushing ability yet but, for those who like contemporary, they're both as lovely as a toilet can be!

Well - I've had my Eco Drake for 3 weeks, and so far so good. I must admit that when it flushes, it sounds like it's not gonna do the job, but it does everytime - so I think I just have to get used to the different sound. It's a quick flush - kind of a "gulp." LOL.

Couldn't resist the $150.00 rebate from my water utility when buying a high-efficiency toilet.

beantownrenovator, I went with a one piece (UltraMax) because of easier cleaning and less chances for a leak (since there's no "seam" where two pieces are bolted together).
The Toto Ultramax is one piece and one Toto's most popular toilets.

Another vote for Toto. Just make sure to get a model that offers the GMAX flushing system if the toilet will get regular use and you want to avoid clogs.

Thanks so much Monica-I was deciding between the drake and ultra max, I like the look of the drake a bit better, but I'm looking to avoid the plumber ever coming to my house again, so I will go with the most functional and ignore style.

To be honest, I didn't give the style of the toilet much consideration when shopping. It's smaller than my old toilet, more modern, but it just kinda sits in the corner, not drawing attention to it's little self (understated elegance) but doing what it's meant to do with flying colors. I couldn't be more pleased :)

And another vote for Toto! We recently installed the Toto Vespin and it's terrific - no issues whatsoever and it's obviously using much less water. We're really happy with it.

Mmme - the Toto Drake has several versions that are insulated. Here they are at homeclick.com , although there are several websites that sell them.

Srchicago - Toto has several models that you might consider "retro-looking". The Toto Mercer perhaps, or for a more traditional look the Toto Dartmouth which even has an old-fashioned porcelain pull lever. I have the Toto Dartmouth and it has worked flawlessly, and I also like that the top is large enough so that I put a couple of items on there in my space-challenged bathroom.

As to one-piece vs. two-piece: The one-piece toilets are a great deal more expensive; a much more contemporary sleek look; are a bit harder to install cause you have to set the one-piece "just so" and they are heavy; are supposed to be easier to clean due to fewer seams. The two-piece toilets are less expensive than the one-piece; and are easier to install.

Also, I agree with Doingygirl - if you get a Toto, make sure it's a model with Toto's Gmax flushing system.

Toto Ultramax here. We have a couple of other Toto's and I learned my lesson about the G-max. I agree wholeheartedly with the other posters. The Ultramax is the only one in the house that we can count on.

Okay, I did it. I read this post the other day so I ordered two Toto Ultramax's from Faucet Direct on Tuesday. They arrived today only two days later! Best news is that the boxes read "Made in USA".
My "stimulus" check went to a good cause.
