Really wonderful, ingenious work there--congratulations :) Anyone can buy their way to a nice bathroom, but you "hacked" (that's a compliment--from a pretty addicted Ikea hacker :)) your way to something that has dedication and energy and individuality in it and that functions great too. I just love that. The paint job on the can trim is pretty radiant--could you share what you did?

Re the backsplash: hmmm...I think when I look at it that since the leading vertical edge is flush with the edge of the counter, that you're actually *going* for a clean tailored look. If you were going to do an edge trim, I would think you would have wanted it on that vertical edge as well--I'll put in a vote for leaving it as is. Without a matching vertical finishing piece, which you don't have room for, it will look *less* finished if you put another element-piece up on top. The bottom of the counter is defined the field tile, not an edge piece, as well, so there's a parallel there (literally).

If you want to put some energy into something in the room still, I would like to put in a vote for a fabric window treatment to replace the venetian blinds (There's no bath/shower in there, is there?) You've got a big beautful new window there--showcase it with some design of its own :) A roman shade inside the window casing? The trim will show to better effect then, too. There should be shades in that width that come in stock, so you wouldn't have to have it made custom. Hope you don't mind my making an alternate suggestion--I think it would finish off that side of the room as beautifully as you've done the other sides.

Sometimes, well most times, when looking on these boards with all the wonderful, spectacular bathrooms, it makes me feel a bit......... well, a LOT, out of my league.

Then I read posts like the two above.
I'll just say....I appreciate your posts more than you know.

I fell short when it came to the Decorating DNA Gene--your suggestion for a Roman shade, I never would have thought of that, thank you!

I went with the $11 blind for now because me and hubby are at a crossroads when it comes to fabric.
He found the perfect (he thought) fabric for our bedroom window treatments and I've managed to finally *whew!* talk him out of it.
But now we are left with not being able to come up with a compromise.
Whatever I put in the bedroom, since bathroom and bedroom windows are both on same wall and visible from the entrance to the bedroom, I wanted the same fabric or at least coordinating fabrics for both windows.
Until we can come to a compromise on the windows in the bedroom, the blinds were doing their job --- keeping the neighbors from seeing me brush my teefers in the morning.
A Roman shade-- Perfect!

Oh, and I'm NOT the one that picked out the wall paint color for the bathroom.
Personally I'd like to tone it down with a very light wash or glazing of some Golden Brown color.
The Medieval Gold works well on the walls in our bedroom because it's in a flat finish and the way the sun comes through the windows in the bedroom keeps the color toned a bit.
In the bathroom with a semi-gloss finish and the larger window---Wow--talk about a wake-up jolt in the morning! LOL

The can trim, light fixture over the sink, the ceiling fan in the bedroom and the long dowel/curtain rod over the new bedroom windows were done using the darkest brown interior paint I had. I added a blop of dark bronze metallic colorant and a drop of red acrylic craft paint. Mixed half satin and half Dead Flat sealer as a topcoat on all.
