Purchased a hood from Proline in late March.Rec'd w/in a week.It's a nice looking unit.Chimney was damaged and 4 holes in the support were double drilled.Asked for replacements and wanted the 2 pieces cut down.We're willing to pay for that.Said they'd have Fedex pick them up.Finally after a few phone calls, they send Fedex to pick items up.More time passed and FINALLY got the cut down SS chimney.We're still waiting for the cutdown support and still getting the runaround.We are so frustrated.This is an island hood and one Proline worker said the support with double drilled holes would be okay to use as is.Mind you, it must hold 60#, and we live near a train track.We're concerned that over time, the screws could loosen and possibly cause it to fall on our new stove.The unit weighs 60#.To which this person said, "It's no big deal.It will work okay even w/the double drilled holes." Sure--they don't have to live w/it. NOTE:If you buy from Proline, be sure you read EVERYTHING they have on their website.Which is A LOT! It's now the 3rd week in June and the hood is still sitting on our LR floor waiting for the cut down support that will make it fit our counter to ceiling space. Their CS folk keep saying, "I'm sorry." and that they are waiting to hear from persons in their Ohio facility.It seems to be a continual problem.I asked to speak (not the first time)to the owner and it seems he's always in China. Their hoods look nice, hopefully the quality is good, but their integrity is in question.Too bad those that answer their phones have to take all the flak from customers.They likely are trying, but it's hard trying to move dead meat. Sure hope they get paid REALLY well.

I'm on a budget and looking for a wall mount range hood. I've picked out the Proline model PLZW KB.30. I've never seen one in person and have to order from prolinerangehoods.com, the price is decent at $349 but am a little concerned about the quality. I know it is an economy priced hood, others can get over $1000 which I'm not willing to spend on a hood. Has anybody had experience with Proline or have any comments?

First, thanks to gardenweb for so much helpful and useful info! I ordered from this company despite it's low BBB rating. First ship: damaged. They accepted return and shipped another. Contractor installed it properly, and the primary reason I ordered it, the supposedly quiet 7 sones fan on high...well it sounds like a 747 is pulling up to the gate in my kitchen. Moral of the story: You get what you pay for. P.S. I will never remodel a kitchen again, unless of course, I turn into a Vampire and live forever so I have the time to wait for UPS deliveries and slooowww contractors. Good luck!

par. 1: I mistook your (jviolet lee) earlier post for definitive baffle information that the provided link appeared to support. With two rows of baffles there shouldn't be a problem of relatively uniform air flow, so you can disregard for the Proline anything I wrote related to that. par. 2: I didn't comment on efficiency exactly, only that it is possible to get away with one row of baffles if there is room to straighten the flow between baffles and aperture. Also, the more baffle area one has, the lower the air velocity through the baffles for the same blower flow rate, and hence (for equivalent baffle aerodynamics) the lower the noise. Deep capture volumes are not needed with baffles covering the entire aperture. Higher capture volume with full baffle coverage may have utility for transient plume conditions, such as suddenly removing a pan cover. In summary, as seen in the Wolf hood, high capture volume is not needed in such configurations. The caveat is that this requires that the flow rate (CFM) be sufficient that the rising plume velocity (ft/min) roughly equals that of the airflow through the baffle gaps. This is achieved at around 90 CFM/square foot of aperture area (depending on plume). par. 3: To clarify terminology: Capture area is the effective size of the hood bottom aperture through which the cooking effluent passes. It is approximately equal to the physical size (square feet) of the opening, but may include some small fringing capture of lower velocity plume components. I do not count this peripheral area, but note that it exists. Capture volume (cubic feet) is the volume between the aperture and the baffles. In commercial hoods this is large, but in residential hoods it is modest to nil. Nil allows some modern looking designs, but I would worry that containment might be compromised with no barrier at the ends of the baffles. This flush filter scheme is probably best used with mesh filters. This is not a plug for mesh filters. The concept of efficiency is relevant to the commercial realm. Here full capture and containment at the lowest electrical power and heating cost is the measure of maximum efficiency. Commercial hoods (with commercial make-up air systems) aim for maximum efficiency. Pro residential hoods typically strive to look pro while not degrading performance much. Efficiency is not a driver as full power operation in residences happens rarely compared with commercial settings. kas
