Anyone know a good house cleaner?

I live in Calgary, Canada and don't want to hire from a commercial cleaning business. Can anyone recommend a good independent cleaner in my area?

I have an 1800-sq.ft two storey home, with 2 1/2 bathrooms. I want someone to come in every two weeks to clean the bathrooms, vaccuum and mop the tile/carpet floors, and dust. I'm not interested in having the kitchen cleaned, nor the blinds. I can do that myself.

You can post a "Help Wanted" on the bulletin boards at most universities. Students often look for part time work expecially something with flexible hours.

You could also try a church parish. The pastor may know of someone who needs work and has a good reputation.

You say you do not want to hire a commercial service but be aware that if you hire someone who is independant, that they may not be bonded or insured. Some are and some are not.

You don't specify if you want a 'body only' cleaning person who will use your cleaning supplies, or if you want someone to come in with their own equipment and cleansers.

A cleaning service has access to industial strength cleaners that do a really good cleaning job - better that the stuff you buy off the shelves at the grocery store. And you don't have to try to remember to keep buying floor cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, Windex, paper towels, sponges, vacuum cleaner bags, ect., as they are used up. One less thing to be troubled with. :)

I do not know the laws in Canada, but here in the US you have to file taxes as an employer and verify citizenship status for anyone you hire, if you pay them more than $30/mo to work in your home. You may want to check on that. It might be easier to just get a cleaning service.

With a cleaning service, if your cleaner quits, the service just sends someone new. You don't have to go over the whole process of finding and interviewing dozens of applicants all over again.

Hi Justin, Welcome to Charlotte. You should come to our garden club, Eveningshade Garden Club. It meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month in Huntersville at 7:30. Most of us are transplants to Charlotte so could help you a lot. Farmhouse Nursery in statesville has a lot of unusual perennials. Garden Grove and Dearness Gardens are both in Huntersville on Old Statesville Rd. Both are good. For pond plants and daylilies you need to check out Betty Brown in Davidson. She is a private residence but she has several acres and sells pond plants and daylilies very reasonably. She has a wonderful selection of plants. Send me an email if you are interested.

Anyone know about steam/brush carpet cleaners & berber carpet???

The Carpet Rug Institute recommends professional steam cleaning. The pros have the proper equipment that maintains hot enough water temperature to disinfect. The equipment has enough suction to remove excess water that can cause delamination of carpet backing, saturate carpet cushion, and cause mold and mildew problems. They also use cleaning products that do not leave residues to attract soil and rapid resoiling. One of the biggest problems with DIY carpet cleaning is oversaturation of carpet and cushion.

I don't know of any fiberglass PB's in MD but I live in Carroll Co., MD and we have been at this for 1 yr. We have finally decided on a PB after meeting with 5 people and doing TONS of research (thank you to all the people on here. I have lurked a lot but your suggestions and pics have helped me so much). Our dig should begin in about 20 days. We only wanted to deal with owners so that means none of the big companies were even considered. We decided to go with Steve Braun from BackYard Creations out of Frederick. We were comfortable with him as a person and he gave us a terrific price right out of the gate. He has a store in Frederick so you can go in and see him or his guys anytime and get answers to questions and buy products. I would tell you to stay away from Outdoor Impressions. If you want to know why I will tell you in a pvt email. Don't want to say too much in an open forum because my opinions are very strong about this owner. Tim Rowan from Rowan Landscape is great too but his prices were just too high for us. he does beautiful work. We also spoke with Bob from Lothorian Pools. Also as great guy but too pricey. Thanks guys! I have no imagination when it comes to house plans. I think I need to tour a bunch of homes before we settle on something. Since getting married 11 years ago we have only lived in two homes - a very small, very poorly laid out chalet style mountain home (900 sq ft) and now we are living in a 3 bedroom single wide (980 sq ft) on the 20 acres where we are going to build. All I know is what doesn't work! I like the look of that house and I actually like the shed roof in the back so we can get a full floor upstairs. We are planning on getting an architect to help us with the home but I need someplace to start! And I agree, there are not enough windows on the front.
