Sunflower Table

Changed out my table tonight with the sunflower plates and candle holders I recently found at YS. I placed DM Garden Angel in the center so I would have pictures to share with the rest of the family later. Sorry I forgot to light my candles before taking pictures.

Beautiful dinnerware against the backdrop of that emerald green tablecloth. Love the sunflowers. They look real, are they? I like how you layered your placemats on top of the tablecloth to tie all the colors in. Very nice!

Well....I finaly got my round garden all planted! It is sooooo neat! I ended up with nine 2ft paths coming into the center and a 3ft side walk all the way around the circle. Between the circle path and the garden fence is 2ft of garden, planted with tomatoes, cucumbers, corn and birdhouse gourds. I scooped all the topsoil out of the paths and put into the beds, then mulched all the hills and beds with grass cuttings. Planted red salvia along the main path to the picnic table in the middle and yellow marigolds all around the circle that the table sets in. Good thing I rasied the beds as we have got a ton of rain today and the paths are standing in water,would have washed all the seed down to the river. Just got it all planted yesterday evening, with DH's help. Oh, also have about 200 glass insulators, brown, clear, blue and green, and am in the process of putting homemade wire hangers on them and hanging them all around the top of the garden fence. They look really pretty in the sun. A homemade scarecrow and an old wheelbarrow filled with gourds stand in welcome at the left of the archway entrance. Thanks for all your input to the sunflower seed question. I went and purchased the Burpee Mammoth seeds:). We have a two story house Ms. Faith and my sewing room upstairs overlooks the garden so I can hang out the window and get a birdseye view to take a pic if I don't fall out on my head. I'm so tickled with my round garden that I can't hardly stand myself. Also can't hardly move today. Getting to old for this stuff:) Happy Gardening Ellen

I grow loads of different sunflowers every summer, and am always open and interested in hearing about new varieties that I don't have yet. This is not the way to do it though! Besides I'd much rather hear about personal experiences with the flowers than a standard commercial blurb that one could get off just about any website. That's not why most of us come to this forum! Also I'd like to point out that "Indian Blanket" is a sunflower I grow, but GardenWeb informs me that it is not in their database because it is not a "recognized" cultivar, or something like that. They responded to me and said: "We cannot find any record of this cultivar having been registered anywhere. With all due respect, there are far too many nurseries that make up names and market them with no formal registration/patent...If you can locate the name of the person/nursery that registered/patented it and the year, we will be glad to include it. The information will have to come from a university.edu, or society or botanical garden.org, or something similar, not a commercial enterprise." Just FYI.

Thanks everybody. Karen, how about "inspinablers?" Jane, I miss the students, but not the rest. At my first HS, I had my own room to decorate, but at my last school, I did not have my own classroom, but traveled from room to room, so not much decorating went on there. I found the little desk at a TS when I was still teaching. I actually have a real one like that without the seat, that I use in my FR as an end table. It was also a TS find. Janet, I still have apple decor in my kitchen, so the wooden apple in the ivy came from there. Magpie, I guess I just lucked out, because after I saw OA's table, I thought that would be a great idea for those dishes that I had just bought last week. Then, when I was in one of my TS on Sat. I found the little schoolhouse and the apple on the stack of books which is also a music box. Both were 1/2 off, and I love music boxes, so of course, they came home with me! Then I had to figure out how to use them on the table. I "borrowed" OA's idea of using pencils and added the rest. There is actually a small globe on the other side of the desk. Just a small part of it is peeking out in the photo. Punk, I usually use those apple napkin rings as decor standing in a row along the top of my wall ovens, but I had to borrow them for the table. OA...so you checked out the locations and saw a new one coming to Texas... Yippie for all you Texans!! Magpie..thank you...but I've seen 'your style' and I like it just fine. You have to give yourself more credit than you do...From what I've seen, you have a wonderful eye for decorating and tablescape design....(how's that table coming along from DH?).. If you're like me, you probably wanted it done yesterday!! Also, I seem to remember you scoring some great TS items...I'm waiting to see them 'in action' ! Karen...Thanks for the plate flower pictures...how beautiful and so creative.. I would have never thought making something like that using dishes. I love the B&W floral one..very pretty. Nana...thank you. I know what you mean about getting into trouble with a CTS nearby. I really have to use restraint when I pass by there. It's very hard not seeing what new stuff they have. Think of it this way...you have more money to buy 'Other Stuff' ! jane

Well, punk, that t'scape just makes me "smile!" ...so very cheerful...something about sunflowers that does that to ya! LOL! I like how you layered the dishes & have the B&W combo under the sunny plates! Flowered napkin holders are darling with your sunny plates, too! The layered placemats look really good with the sunflowers, too...and your DM's angel is just downright "cute!" TFS! Jeanne S.

Bonnie, thanks so much and no the sunflowers are not real. I'll post a close up so you can see them better. I have alot of sunflowers in my yard but kept forgetting to go cut some today and now it's dark.

Nana, glad you enjoyed this table and thanks for your comments. I didn't like it for some reason so tweaked it some tonight. I still think it looks kinda square in the center but I don't have time to put a place setting in the back now.

Jane, you do need to get your buns movin' and create some beautiful tables for us. What have you been doing??? I love seeing all your beautiful tables.

Jeanne, thanks but after looking at it today I didn't care for it so changed some things. I replaced the Garden Angel with the bird with TUDE. It reminds me of myself at times.LOL Not the angel DM taught me to be. Sure miss her and if she was here I'm sure I wouldn't get attitude like I do. She always taught me to be nice! That's just not always fun.LOL

punk...I like your new table, too! I think taking the black away & adding the white circle placemats revitalizes the sunflower dishes to show off more! (or however you say that!) LOL! And I love your new TS find...the bird with the TUDE! Yeah, I'm feeling your vibes with the Mom thing...my Mom taught us, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all." Ummmm...I usually listened but not always "obeyed."

Oh, & I do like this table better with only one pot of "sunnies" ...shines in the spotlight much better! TFS your tweaks! Jeanne s.

Jeanne, thanks and so funny your mom used the same other saying my DM used, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all." I must admit I said that to my kids too.
I just read your post on OA's table and I must of been replying while you was posting. We almost came up with the same thoughts. Your a fun one, too.

I used that SAME expression 'If you can't say something nice don't say anything'.. on DD and now my DGkids...and it was handed down from my DM. So, even if we don't always follow what they Preached...we Remember!! lol
Punk, I agree with Jeanne, I think the white shows off your sunflower plates with a more cheerful look. I too like the single vase and your TS 'TUDE/DUDE' is lovely.
I think he'd be great in a Fall/Thanksgiving scape too.

I love both of your tables.
I think the first one was happier and the second was fancier, IYKWIM.

I believe it was Thumper's mom in the movie Bambi where I first heard the phrase about only saying nice things.
I used to tell that to my daughters as well.

I have my eye on your little sunflower votive holder. It would fit into my TS tablescape quite nicely. LOL

Jane, so you get TUDE at times? No way, your a sweetie. Thanks for all the help with my tables and it shows I just throw them together w/o enough thought or time. Some day I may decide to retire but till then hope all of you will still play with me.haha

Candy, thanks for all your comments. I should send you that votive holder cuz I could live w/o it no problem. It was only a quarter so I couldn't pass it up. I think your right on that saying from the Bambi movie. Been along time since I watched it.

Guess we'll all be nice girls thanks to our DM and will be passing something positive on. I remembered at 11 I have a DF who is still in the hospital who wants choc. cupcakes for her BDay tomorrow. It's now after midnight and just finished frosting them so should be heading off to bed since I can't sleep in.

I like both tables, Punk. I can't pick a favorite.
You make yellow appealing...LOL. Its not enough I became a "Pinkie" here, now its going to be yellow as well.
Never would have thought pastel colors could be pretty till I came here. LOL.
