Hood height over charbroiler range?

We need some quick advice from the Appliance Forum meisters.

We are planning for a 60" Wolf dual fuel range with a charbroiler. For ventilation, we want to put a liner inside a decorative wood hood. We don't want to use a stainless hood because a 60" steel hood is a lot of steel and would dominate the room.

SZ/Wolf recommends that a hood made of flammable material be mounted 44" minimum above a cooktop with a charbroiler. That is pretty darn high.

Even with a 9'4" ceiling height, mounting a wood hood that high means we would have 24" for a wood hood with crown molding, which seems like a skimpy, skinny hood.

What have others who have a range with a charbroiler done about their hood, if they didn't want to go with a steel exterior? What kind of material should we be looking at, if not wood, because we want a larger hood that would hang lower over the cooktop?
