Getting urine smell out
Comments (34)Krud Kutter. Sold at Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart... (You can also start with Spot Shot--this got red paint out of cream carpet for me, but it has a strong chemical smell; if you have urine in hardwood floors, Out!--usually found at Wal-Mart--works well.) It works on just about everything...except oil spills on concrete. I am a Jane-of-All-Trades (art, construction, automotive, anything, everything) and incredibly messy. Krud Kutter is amazing for laundry stains--removes blood, right before your eyes, with just a quick squirt. It doesn't bleach items AND is eco-friendly. I never dilute the stuff because I just like to go strong the first time around, but it IS a concentrated formula. I have a 12-year-old chihuahua that just loves to hike his leg on everything, and he also doesn't like to drink a lot of water; so, his urine is POTENT. I've used Krud Kutter on the diapers I now make him wear as well as in the carpet cleaner, and it is amazing. Best two cleaning products ever: Krud Kutter (comes in several iterations--I like the Tough Task) and Magic Eraser...See MoreHow to Get Urine Smell out of porous Cement?
Comments (11)Holy Dog Urine.....that was fast! Are you all always this prompt when helping with Pet questions? If so, no need for me to ever go hunting and pecking all over the internet when I have a question/problem with any of my fur and feathered babes....I'll just come directly here! Cynthia, Ok, about the Lime...do you mean actual citrus lime? As in, juice? If so, then I'm in business as my neighbor has a lime tree and the limes are always dropping all over her yard and mine because she doesn't do anything with them. If not the citrus lime, what kind do you mean? Joepyeweed, Does Simple Solution have a decent scent? Normally I wouldn't care as long as I could get the old urine smell out of the area but since it's a place to relax I don't want another nasty scent added to the mix. Although, it can't be near as bad as some of the solutions I've tried already. lol Does Simple Solutions come in a concentrate so that I can mix up a garden pump sprayer of it for the week? I'll tell ya both...I had nooo idea old, dried dog urine could smell so bad when it's been dampened with hose water. My gosh, it was infiltrating into the house a whole double garage space away from it. You are both great for taking the time to read my question and respond, and so fast. Thank you both!...See MoreIs there any way to get crease out of area rug?
Comments (22)I bought a beautiful Surya 8 x 10 highly patterned wool area rug to use over neutral nylon wall to wall carpet in our den. Almost immediately a long narrow crease appeared that's not only ugly but dangerous. I've almost tripped over it several times. Local carpet stores either say nothing can be done or they're just not interested in trying. We live in the California desert - very hot, very dry - 4 months of the year. Crease is right next to sliding glass door. So lots of hot dry air. Was thinking of pouring a large amount of water on crease and then placing something very heavy over layers of towels on the crease to flatten it out while it dries. My other thought was taking a very thin razor blade or very fine sharp knife and slitting the crease in several places in order to let the fibers in the crease relax. I know both of these ideas may sound damaging and absurd, but no more absurd than tripping over the crease and damaging myself. I know there are many of us out here with this same problem, and would very much appreciate any comments or ideas....See MoreHow can I get rid of outgassing smell on area rug?
Comments (4)Actually, I was just looking some of this up the other day. The smell can develop over time due to deterioration. Here's the text and link to the site that was describing this: ...it has to developed a very noticeable pungent odor. It seems to permeate the entire carpet and come may possibly come from the backing. We have only had it spot cleaned by a professional to clean up dog messes. The odor was there before that occurred. Could it be from the material in the rug? Any suggestions? ANSWER: Hello Denise, Thank you for your question. I'm guessing that the smell is a foot/rotten egg smell. Unfortunately, what you're smelling is the latex glue that was used to put together your tufted rug. Over time, the glue of these rugs begins to break down and smell. It is not something that will come out, as it has to do with the rug's age and generally gets worse with time. I wish I had better news. Being in the cleaning business, this is a problem that comes up all the time, and believe me, if there were a fix, we'd have found it by now. The shorter lifespan of the hand-tufted rugs is the reason why I suggest that our customers only purchase hand-knotted rugs and sometimes machine-made if those are out of the budget.
