Would you change the design above this new build garage?
Comments (87)In light wood framing exterior walls resist lateral wind and earthquake forces by spanning from one floor to another thereby transferring the lateral forces to the floors which transfer the forces to the walls that are perpendicular to the lateral forces and those walls transfer the forces to the foundations. If an exterior wall were not structurally continuous, the house frame would be at risk of failing therefore there are no old light wood framed house where the lower half of the wall is double wythe masonry and the upper half is wood framed. Modern framing techniques allow light wood framing to be continuous from floor to floor with modern simulated claddings (like adhered thin brick and horizontal lap siding) added that change part way up the wall. This approach might look right for a modern design but for a traditional house it looks forced and out of place. If you want to maintain the appearance of a traditional house, change the cladding materials at the floor lines....See MoreHow would you landscape this area? Any ideas welcome, new build.
Comments (30)maybe just mix in a few shovel's worth of sand Sand needs to make up more than half of a planting soil before it starts to affect aeration and drainage. So to produce such effects the existing sand content of a soil has to be augmented with enough additional sand to end up with such a final percentage of sand. Otherwise amending of individual planting holes so that a pocket of different soil texture is created within a larger area can often have adverse effects on recently planted stock due to how movement of water into and out of the amended hole is affected by the involved textural differences. This can result in slowed growth, sometimes even failures. With this phenomenon not being generally noticed due to plants growing away normally once they have rooted beyond the amended hole, into the zone of unmodified soil around the hole that they should have been planted in direct contact with in the first place....See Morelaminate vs vinyl - Florida new build
Comments (8)Hey there, I have to respectfully disagree on this one. Vinyl products never quite look like wood, they only last 5-10 years in high traffic areas and are petroleum based so not a good option from a sustainable material standpoint. I would recommend a tile floor or engineered wood. If you're only interested in wood look rather than traditional wood I have seen some ceramic plank tile wood look a likes which will last much longer than vinyl or laminate. Best of luck with the project !...See Morebuilding new home concrete slab, LVP, LVT or Laminate? and what color
Comments (1)That is hardwood on the floors so really showing us this has no real bearing on choosing flooring. You need to talk to a flooring expert about the best choice with the slab. There are many ways to do flooring on conctete slab but you need to talk to a pro in your area. I love LVP but it has limitations too. I would choose it over laminate unless you go very good quality laminate from maybe Germany ....See Morelavender_lass
