Have you removed any gasket and actually stuck you hand down in it and all around as well as a visual check? I had one of my sinks sticking and it was backing up into the DW. I couldn't figure out why, and I put ice cubes, sme citrus and something leafy down. When I stucj my hand down there, there was some kind of beige goo -- I suspect it was some fat off some kind of meat that had been trimmed and it was soft enough that it didn't get cut up and washed down -- might have been caught under the side or on the blades -- not sure where it was because I could never see it. I got a paper towel and removed the guk -- ean another lemon or whatever I had down it, ran another DW cycle and we've been good since. Hope that helps. Good luck figuring it out.

I've had good luck with a mixture baking soda and vinegar. I use a small box of soda and about a pint of white vinegar. Pour soda first into the sink followed by the vinegar, let the foaming action loosen up the grease and gunk that build up, when the foaming stops follow it up by pouring a kettle of boiling water down the drain. I'd try a combination of boiling water and ammonia because ammonia is great for grease. Preheat the disposal innards with hottest tap water before dousing with first ammonia, then boiling water, more ammonia, boiling water...

Also, you could try putting some gel-type Dishwasher detergent diluted with a bit of water into the disposal and letting it set for a few minutes before flushing with boiling water.

No, ammonia does not contain bleach. As a matter of fact, mixing the two can create dangerous substances, including rocket fuel, as explained in the following link. More probably you are going to create chlorine gas which is very bad to inhale. Most bleach bottles specifically instruct against mixing with ammonia.

If the trap is not the problem, then something is trapped in the disposer. There can be no other source.

You could undo the trap connection, and plug the end going to the DW. This would allow you to pour a liquid (ammonia, or the disposer care or even an enzyme dishwasher detergent and hot water) into the disposer and let it fill up and soak. Then remove the plug (stand by for the flood!), reconnect it, and flush with LOTS of water with the disposer running.

Where do people buy their Disposal Care? I looked at the website and the places they list as carrying it - Ace Hardware and Home Depot - do not have it.

Corection, bleach and ammonia WILL create a hazardous gas...not may. It depends on the concentrations but at the right level, the level of ammonium chloride given off(I believe that is the result) can be and has proven to be fatal.
