Toto Aquia II does not clean bowl well

We just installed two Aquia II and I have to say that I am not thrilled. It flushes well, but bowl often does not end up completely clean. This almost never happened with old toilets. So I either have to ignore, or keep the brush handy.

I love the way the toilet looks,though.

Just thought I would tell people my experience since everyone has here has been so helpful.

pretty much the case with all low flow WC with a tiny waterspot like this one.

Interesting. I am glad to see more discussions here recently regarding dual flush toilets.

I pretty much had my mind made up to buy and Aquia II, and then I had second thoughts about the small water spot - so I changed my mind and got the American Standard H2Option. I didn't want to be cleaning/brushing it more than normal.

So, for those who might be looking for dual flush alternatives, here's my experience. The AS H2Option is dual flush but has a much larger water spot than the Aquia II. It is gravity flush, and has a normal install (no need to drill through tile). H2Option has a MaP rating of 1,000 and the Aquia II has a MaP rating of 500. What I feel I gave up was the lovely Toto skirted bowl. We have been using the H2Option for about 2 months. I have had no problems at all with bowl wash on the H2Option, so I am pleased with my choice. I think it looks good too.

I have two. I had the first one for three years, loved it, and bought a second one when I remodeled the next bathroom. The dual flush works well every single time. I have never had a problem. Never. In fact, we typically only use the small flush and it never fails to clear the bowl. The skirt, although I am not a huge fan of the modern look, is wonderfully easy to keep clean, and I am a huge fan of easy cleaning. One thing you will have to get used to is the small water surface area. Use the Toto seat - it will feel odd at first, but you will get used to it quickly. It is designed to (at the risk of being indelicate) get you pointed in the right direction to land solid waste in the water. If you get a different seat, you will end up cleaning the bowl more often. I have one more bathroom to remodel - it will also get an Aquia.

Problems with Toto Vespin II?

We also are planning to order the Toto Vespin II for one bathroom and the Drake II for the other two bathrooms. I will be interested in reading the responses you get from people who have actual experience with Toto's double cyclone flushing system. Is it possible that the sale's person was talking about the Vespin I? If I remember correctly, I think the older model had a different flushing system. All I know is that I do not want a Kohler based on repeated experiences in at least 3 different locations that I visit fairly often (store, doctor's office, etc.) I don't know the specific style in each place, but I consistently have trouble getting these toilets to clear away even small pieces of tissue. Maybe I am being unfair to Kohler, but those repeated problems make me reluctant to bring one into my home.

Moccasinlanding, you are so sweet to have run around your house with your tank lid for me! You gave me an idea to do the same, as I realized I have both a Toto and an American Standard toilet elsewhere in the house. I am assuming that they would use the same white across models; of course that may not be the case, but I will take any data points I can in my obsessive bathroom frenzy. I lined up my tile, my vessel sink, and the two toilet tank lids. It turns out that the A.S. lid is a slightly creamier white than the Toto, but I think it is a better match for the sink and tile. The Toto is whiter than my other elements. So now I am back to thinking that the A.S. is the way to go. I do like the cleaner lines of the skirted Toto, but I'm not sure I like it $200 more, when this is a bath for a teenage boy. Plus I think that the skirting may make it look even whiter, since there will be more flat surfaces to reflect light. And it is not a one-piece. I think I'm reaching a decision here.... The next big thing I need to look at is seat size and "target" area. Have to say that toilet research has been enlightening, and has made me laugh a few times. Thanks so much for your help.

I think it has been about 4 1/2 years and I find it very easy to keep clean, we have had to pull out the plunger 2x in the amount of time and it was a simple little pop and all was good. I have builder grade low flow toilets from 92-93 and each of them have a plunger next to them. I am happy to say I don't have to keep one next to my Toto. It has a pretty large water surface area too so the bowl stays clean. I love the fact it is skirted I have dogs and they shed like mad and I don't have to stand on my head cleaning around all those nooks and cranies! I will soon replace the other two with the same toilet. It's a good looking contemporary style that I really like.

Wow - sorry the Aquia II is not working out for you but thanks so much for posting. You have reaffirmed my decision not to get that toilet - lovely as it may be with its skirted design. My decision based pretty much on the facts kimkitchy describes - along with the fact function of the toilet is top priority for me - over appearance.

I understand the Aquia has better MaP rating than the Aquia II. Is that still a viable option?

A map rating of 500 grams is all that is needed.
Nobody puts in more then 250 grams.
In the old days, they were making toilets that moved 150 grams.

I had a Toto Ultimate elongated that map had rated at 325 grams. It took us two years for the first plug.
Then we tried the Kohler Cimarron rated at 650 grams, and plugged it weekly.
The map test uses uniform 4" x 3/4" paste wrapped in clear plastic. It's not real world for many households.
We replaced the Cimarron with the Toto Dalton, one of the lowest priced Toto toilets, less then $200 and found that it rinsed better then the Cimarron, and didn't plug, the map rating was the same, but different performance. Go figure.
I never sold a many Dalton's as I thought I would. Comfort height, good flush, nice looks, good footprint coverage, and less then $200
