Full StoryI am planning to tile my new bathroom floor using HardieBacker as the tile backer over the subfloor. However, my existing subfloor consists of 1x8 boards with approx. 1/4 in. spacing between boards which run diagonally across the floor joists. This spacing of course complicates application of the required thinset under the HardieBacker. A Lowes employee suggested using 1/4 in. luan underlayment between the subfloor and the HardieBacker. The HardieBacker instructions do not cover a case such as this, so is this an acceptable solution and if so, should the 1/4 in. Luan be glued and nailed to the subfloor?
