Where Did You Get Your Front Entry Door?

Trying to find a front entry door that's not going to be over $4,000.00....any suggestions other than ThermaTru and Andersen?

Check out Door Store of America-Master Crafted Doors. We went with the Aberdeen Burlwood 8' door and love it. As it was an arched door, it was a little more expensive than the non-arched doors, but still under $4,000. The other nice thing was that they are a US company based in NC. Very happy with the quality, look & feel of the door.

Hey Kathi...it would look fine in a single, in fact the architect drew up two options, this and a single with sidelights. I can't even remember why we went with the doubles...I honestly think it had to do with the relative ease of cramming the gigantic Christmas I insist on every year in the house! :) My husband wanted arch topped doors like Annie's, but our house is quite traditional, even though our doors really aren't, and I thought a transom would fit the house a little better. You can see blurry out the seedy glass...shapes, but not faces or details. It is nice for letting in light but gives you a tad more privacy.

Still waiting..... The sidelights that were delivered with the door were the wrong size; (the glass pane area was too small) so then it turned out we had to have those custom made to fit the door. They are complete, and the stained glass guy has them. and is doing the panels as we speak, hopefully. The plan is to have all of it installed at the same time and have it all painted together. So it should be soon, hopefully next week sometime. We did get the copper roof done and it looks great, and they put one coat of paint on the columns so they are all white. We just decided to hold off on the door until the new sidelights were in. Hopefully everyone measured twice and cut once this time... I will definitely post as soon as it is done. Thanks for asking!

Camarodreamer, I think I am more bothered by the fact that one can see directly from our front door through the front hall into the living room (and on through French doors into the back yard). It makes the living room seem too exposed, in my opinion, and too much like a transitional space rather than a destination for repose. I don't like that a person standing at the front door can see who is sitting in the living room. Does that make sense? A view into the kitchen, especially if one has the theoretical option of closing a door to block that view when the pots and pans are flying, would bother me less. Histokitch, to me, a kitchen off the driveway door seems just where you would want it: good for hauling in the groceries, ideally through a mud room with a powder room opening off the mud room. (We don't have a mud room -- that goes into the design for our next life.) This 1910 house is unusual: not a center hall colonial, and most of the utilitarian spaces (kitchen and bathrooms and dressing room and hallways and third-floor "luggage room") are in the front of the house. The nice thing about that is this: the living room, library, dining room and bedrooms open to the back yard. The house is broad and shallow so that most rooms have windows on two walls, and visible natural light from three sides in most cases. When you walk up to the front door, if you look in the windows to the right of the door you see the kitchen. It's a good way of monitoring activity on the street! Lynn

I got a new side door, there is no "front" door in 2016. It was a full glass door with blinds inside the glass. It was prefinished white. Plus I got a new screen door, the kind that you pull down the top glass and the screen pulls down. Plus locks. I love this door and the storm door. Where the door is is my laundry room/furnace/hot water heater/water softener and a door going into a half bath. It was a very dark area and this has brightened it up so much. The local company supplied the doors i wanted, installed and took away the old stuff. Total cost $1,710.85 Was worth every penny to me. Both doors operate smoothly, the storm door opens and closes properly and even latches! Haven't had that in quite a few years!

Hey MyDreamHome! Thanks!! We broke ground today...and builder said first 2 items are windows and doors.

Recommend that you pick your door(s)now and even purchase them but do not let your builder install them until very near the end of the build. Instead, go down to your local Habitat for Humanity "Re-Store" or look on Craigslist and pick up the very cheapest used door you can find that is the same size as the one you want. Have that installed instead. Workers going in and out of the house constantly scrape things against the doors. If you let your builder put in your good door too soon, it'll be beat to death by the time your house is finished.

bevangel, thats a great point.

We had our front door installed, but the builder framed in it and encased it all off with plywood. No entry through that door. All access is through garage door into house which is an old beatup door.

not sure really how he did it, but it was done in such a way that the drywall comes right up to the plywood casing, then when we are at completion the casing comes off, actual trim goes on.

jean--check out the Plastpro all fiberglass flush glazed doors if any of your exterior doors have a window in them. They come with or without blinds between the glass and in wood grain or smooth texture. The big thing about these doors is how the glass is mounted in the door--it looks alot like the expensive French/patio doors from Pella, Marvin, Jeld-Wen, etc without the expensive part, no aluminum that can be dented, and no cheap looking plastic frame around the window part that will yellow over time that you so often see on less expensive doors. Truly an awesome door!
