neat idea for a lovely table runner

This gal used vintage doilies and laid them out in an interesting way to create a long, lovely table-runner.
I think its really pretty and a good idea.

I love that tree. I love projects that can become 'Keepsakes'. I actually used that idea for my classs each year. Our classes would have a 'Thanksgiving Feast' with all their Family invited. Each year, I would make a Huge Tree that was displayed in the School's Front Entry Hall. All the students in the school, would make a leaf, and write on a leaf - their names, and what they were Thankful For. The children that were too young to write, would be asked - What were they Thankful for, and the teachers would write it for them. On 'Feast Day'.. the parents loved reading all the messages...some very sweet and some really hilarious! After the 'Feast'...everyone got to take their 'Leaf' home to keep. Some families who had severl kids, over the years at our school, said it became a 'Tradition' to have them. We were an International School...and it was also a big hit with Foreign Families as well. Great ideas! Thanks. I'll go ahead and buy the extra fabric and that way I'll have the freedom to be creative. I could combine threegrad's idea with pbrisjar's and have it plaid on one side and a solid bordered in plaid on the other.

My reasoning for something at the foot of the bed is for the kitties to have an extra space to lie on. The fact that it adds to the design of the space is lagniappe. Before I changed bedding for the fall I was looking for a table runner for the summer bed. World Market had a couple I was interested in. I think they were 16" x 90". Right now I have a folded throw on the bed that measures 24" x 70" in its folded state. I still plan on buying a runner next spring.

Wow, another great idea I could actually do. I have tons of old doilies but could never figure out what to do with them other than let the cats slide on them or "keep them warm". I actually learned from this forum to use museum putty to display some old china/pottery etc to cat-proof them. Thanks for all the great ideas.

LOL, Susan...I understand all about "cat-proofing" collectibles! Three of my cats are no problem, the 4th one makes up for all of them. His name is Jazz, but everyone here now knows him as "Trouble", which he even answers to. ;o)
