The icon has two fans (well, 4 since it's a double:)). Each oven has an exhaust fan, which is actually pretty quiet and a convection fan which does stay on the whole time you are using a convection feature. The convection fan turns off when you open the oven, though. My oven has an issue with the locking mechanism for the bottom oven. It keeps saying it's locked when it's not and makes a beeping sound when I open the bottom oven. It has something to do with the lock motor and the central computer board. Since the oven was purchased at the end of June and I became aware of the problem when we moved into our new house in September. They tried several things, were on the phone with Electrolux tech support and finally said that it just couldn't be fixed. That's the story in a nutshell.

I had the same question. I called Electrolux cust ser. They indicated that the Ikon came out earlier and had not been updated in a couple of years. The regular electrolux is newer in design and has virtually the identical features. The Ikon weighs 30 pounds more some there must be some difference. We went with the 27 double Electrolux. Got a great buy at Sears outlet store in Southern Cal. Scheduled to be installed by my contractor next week along with a Blue Star cooktop. Can't wait.

I went to another appliance store and found that the Icon and the non-Icon are probably the same size (or almost the same). The salesman at the store took out the non-Icon rack and put it into the Icon oven (on top of the Icon rack). As you would expect, the non-Icon rack overhung the Icon rack by about an inch--matches fun2cook's rack measurement. The surprising thing was that even with the non-Icon rack sticking out over the other, I could still close the Icon door. In fact there was at least 1/2 inch additional clearance between the rack and the door. The clearance on the Non Icon (w/ the larger racks) was not as generous. The salesman surmised that they made the Icon racks shorter b/c of the glass doors--to ensure nothing would hit the door and crack the glass. So I think that the Icon and nonIcon cavities are the same size--it's just that the racks are different sizes. You could probably have a pan in the Icon oven that overhangs the rack by an inch and you'd still be okay. A difference that I didn't realize for a while is with the design of the glass on the doors. The non-Icon has black inprint of a screen on it. Most of the glass on oven doors are like this. Hard to put into words. It probably hampers visibility a bit, but helps to hide any food splatters. The Icon has glass that's almost crystal clear. So all drips will show. But it's probably better for viewing food as it's being cooked. I sometimes use my oven to store extra pans or to dry them. With the Icon's clear glass doors--the pans would be very visible. And I'm not that quick to clean drips and splatters. The non-Icon will be more forgiving of drips and will hide any pans stored inside. Since my oven will be in a pretty visible location and at eye level, I opted for the non Icon. Hope this is helpful for anyone else trying to figure out the differences between the 2.

Wendy: We have the 48" DF range. Unfortunately, the kitchen is still being remodeled, so I can't comment on usage yet. Suffice to say, I'm very excited about it. It's in the garage... we unpacked it to make sure everything looks good. It was missing 2 of its brass burner rings (for some reason the wrong pack was packed in at the factory... a quick call to customer service solved that problem). It is a very nice feeling unit... doors are heavy (but not too heavy), and the cooktop size is fantastic. We chose it because it was a 6-burner (as opposed to 8 or one with a grill or griddle)... the real estate for large pots / pans is important to us. Plus, it doesn't have any computerized controls or oven settings.. just good old-fashioned knobs. I like that.
