Water pooling in swanstone shower base
Comments (16)He provides a labor warranty on any product that he purchases and installs, regardless if he installs them correctly or not. (In this case, I think the lack of correct support is the major reason it's got an issue.). The warranty of parts is why products that you buy from contractors are marked up, as well as any project has a contractor "contingency fee" built into his pricing as well. It's part of his overall overhead and operating expenses. If a toilet that he installed has a flaw in the porcelain trapway that traps dirt, he gets to replace it with one that isn't flawed. And then deal with the supplier to get a credit from the manufacturer. That's SOP for any legit contractor. For those unlicensed and insured type of fellas, nothing is standard or expected, and none of that may apply at all. All bets are off when using someone unlicensed....See Moreusing Swanstone in a shower--and accessing plumbing later
Comments (8)We can't access from behind; we're in a co-op apartment (so we *own* our home, and remodeling is our right and responsibility), and someone else's shower is on the other side of that wall. I've been trying to point out to my DH that we haven't needed to access that in all these years; he points out that the guy on the other side is having to replace his shower body. I countered that his is really old, and we'd have all new plumbing (as Trebruchet suggests). However, we did replace the shower body in the other bathroom, and we did need to go back in to check on whether something was leaking. There, we can get in from behind. hollysprings, that's true about the settling. I sorta feel that it's gotten worse in recent years. I don't know if anyone else in the building has had problems like ours. And I'd forgotten about how easy Corian is to repair! We fixed a chip on our countertop once, even. And I pointed out to him that we could get into the fixture through the coverplate--I'll have to take him in and show him how that works in the other bathroom. Because the pipes in the wall surely wouldn't need interference. Thanks, all!...See MoreSwanstone shower wall panels?
Comments (1)You're supposed to use the color matched two part epoxy that solvent welds the trim pieces to the panels. And it is FAR more likely that the substrate wasn't flat rather than the panels themselves. They have a certain amount of flex to them, and if heated a bit with a heat gun, can bend slightly. Slightly. But the wall behind them has to be FLAT. And that, and the fact that he didn't use the correct epoxy, is what the problem probably is....See MoreSwanstone Shower floor. Prairie or Tahiti Sand?
Comments (1)Here's a shower we did in our last house with Tahitian Sand. We moved about a year after we put it in, so can't speak to the long term look. But it cleaned up very easily, or so Merry Maids said. :-)...See More- 16 years ago
