waterfall or spout?

removing price, would you rather tub fill with a waterfall or standard spout? Have you used a waterfall? I installed mine high enough to rinse my hair with no splashing, the water sheets down, it is enjoyable while filling the tub and looks nice when not in use. What are your thoughts, pro/con and height of installation? I'm interested because they have been available for years, but do not seem to be used very often, and I really wonder why? I also have the hand spray which I really miss when traveling. In the old days, I used a pitcher to rinse cleanser out of the tub for the next user. Love the useful hand spray. What make a bath perfect for you?

I have the Hansgrohe Axor Massaud and I love it. It has a waterfall and I also have a handspray. It was expensive, but for the master bath, it is really dramatic. They are installed on the deck of my Bain Ultra airtub. I have only been using them for a few months, but am very happy with our choices.

We have installed a Kohler waterfall spout and a hand spray shower in a guest bathroom that will be used by young children mainly. We haven't had a chance to see it in operation because we are about 3 weeks away from having the house done and water, etc. turned on. However, it looks great and I can't wait to see how it works. We installed the waterfall mainly because I thought it would be fun for young visitors and encourage them to get in the tub. Secondly, when my children were very active toddlers I hated the low placement of a typical tub faucet because I was always worried about bumped heads and what is worse broken teeth. Maybe this sounds extreme to worry about things like this but I had two wild ones out of the three and I felt I was the tub life guard whenever they were bathing. The waterfall spout eliminates this worry for me if it turns out I have grandchildren who take after their parents. I'll post a review when we finally get the water turned on in the house.

A deck of any kind in a tub shower situation is a recipe for water damage. You want to make sure that you are using an alcove tub with an integral tile flange. That's what keeps the water from getting behind your walls or spilling out onto your floor from a deck. The Kohler Loure offers a waterfall tub filler with shower diverter control. The chrome trim list is $729,(No one pays list, average is about 70% of list) and then you need to choose your valve. The pressure balancing valve with stops is list at $209. I'd personally prefer a thermostatic valve though, and that starts to get more complicated, as you have to purchase everything even more separately, as in the shower arm, the shower head, the thermostatic trim, the thermostatic valve, the diverter trim, the diverter control, and the tub spout. That adds up to even more money. I'd be a heck of a lot cheaper to just buy him a $200 lavatory faucet! Then buy the cheapest "kit" with a thermostatic valve that you can find for the tub/shower as long as it's in the same finish.

We are months away from having this installed so I can't tell you about the actual operation of the spout. I do, however, have a magazine photo of the spout mounted on the long wall with water flowing. (The magazine was "Dream Baths" and is probably from about a year ago but unfortunately I'm not sure of the date). Are you saying that the spout will be on the long wall of the tub and that you are afraid of the water hitting the edge of the tub and creating another water fall to the floor? From the photo I have the water comes out even with the edges of the spout and I'm just guessing but it doesn't seem like turning it on or off would create enough of a drip to cause a mess.

I would appreciate opinions. Soon I must buy the faucets for my small hall bathroom remodel (5' x 7'). I found myself attracted to Japanese meets Europe design, the tile is a muted gray with some gray, blue and copper glass mosaic accents, and the vanity is custom, cantilevered, and a teak color. I fell in love with a rectanguler self-rimming Duravit sink that is 22" x 16". Because the depth of the vanity top will be only 21", and because I want an uncluttered look, I am thinking that a wall-mounted faucet is the way to go. Do you agree? I can't decide between a Price Pfister waterfall/flume spout (so much fun) and a more sedate Moen or Kohler Purist spout with lever handles. The Moen would be easiest to match with the Moen handheld shower I decided on (just couldn't bring myself to spend the big bucks since the shower will be rarely used). Toughest is to find a grab bar that would coordinate with the Pfice Pfister, but maybe there is a way. Does anyone have advice or an opinion?

I guess I will hit the stores to look at what’s available and talk to associates for recommendations on flow snd such since I didn’t get responses here on others experiences with these types of fixtures.

So glad you mentioned Hansgrohe Axor Massaud, I had not looked lately, and now that I have, fell in love with this one, I'd add a glass tray on top for flowers, candles, perfume, etc. Do wonder why the waterfall isn't full width but love the sleek hand wand and the single lever. What is it like to use?

I have the Kohler waterfall and hansgrohe shower/hand/valves/etc. and do believe it much safer and childfriendly. I also think it is adult functional mounted higher. I love sitting under it to rest my neck and back and a spa rinse after shampoo or facial. Maybe the spout design was growth from the old pump but there are still improvement possible, both in looks and use. Thought just crossed my mind, can "kids" be trusted with hand showers? I'd worry that would be too much temptation for fun resulting in a very wet room. That brings me back to the room drain idea, have fun and let it all rinse down a room drain.

I have the Axor Massaud that is mounted on the tub deck, not the free-standing one. The spout is the same, but there are two knobs-like things for hot and cold. The hand held spray is not like that, but round. I have the same waterfall faucet for the sinks in the master bath and powder room. They do have that lever. We really like them. I have to admit that when people see them--they are wowed!

Bodica, the plumber though both waterfall and the handshower were both nutty ideas for a kids bathroom. But my crafty plan is to make my grown children clean up the mess I allow my grandchildren to make, sort of a payback for all the cleaning up I did for them.
