Rust stains on concrete driveway

Sprinkler system has left rust stains on driveway, stucco and brick. Problem is not so much how to clean off the stains, I think I have found a solution for that, but what is the best product to use to seal the concrete and brick after cleaning, to prevent it from happening again?

Has anyone had success, and if so, what product would you recommend?

Just a question. Do you have iron in your water that it stained your home?

Yes, our well water has a high iron content.

Do you mean stain or concrete coloring? We used Buff in our driveway mix. I really like it because it's not stark and blends with the house, woods and stone better than plain concrete. Down by the street, we had to do so many feet of black - which fades to gray and looks like asphalt. Very expensive to do the darker color. Here's a photo showing both.

There are several diffeent types of processes -- Some, like Athensmom mentioned, are mixed with the concrete pre-pour. Others are penetrating chemicals that react with the chemicals in your concrete to produce a transluscent 'stained' look. And others are top coats that look more like paint or another material. Still others use a combination of methods... In my opinion, some of these processes look fabulous and others look nasty and very fake. Some will peel. Some will fade or have blotchy finishes; others will be so evenly colored that they look 'Stepford'. So shop around and INSIST on seeing samples of the process you're considering done by the crew you're hiring on an existing surface of similar age. Be careful with these products. Whink is Hydrofluoric acid. It can cause severe burns and do not inhale any vapours. Wear a mask, goggles and gloves when using it. The suggestion of using a toilet bowl cleaner is a good one. I would try that first. Take the time to read the labels and check the MSDS before using any of these cleaners.

What product and color did you use? Anything can be accomplished if you have the money. You could sandblast your drive and restain, for example.

We also have that in our well. I'm afraid your best bet would be to put a water treatment in your system. If you can't afford that, and I can understand cause I've been there, you could invest in a bottle of iron out and periodically spray down the stuff that normally turns red and give it a good rinsing. The bad news is that the iron from your water will probably stick to even sealed materials. You can use a masonry sealer to make it easier to clean, but in my experience there is nothing that will keep it from sticking to whatever the water lands on. As the water evaporates, the iron in the water will simply stay there.
