Bluestar drop in cooktop

Hi,

About to pull the trigger on the Bluestar 36 in drop in cooktop. I was calling around a few of the Ontario dealers in Canada and they all tried to sell me another brand. Lots of them say "Well not many people buy them, takes a long time to get here, have you ever cooked with 22k, you'll burn a lot of food etc."

Any ideas why they would do that? They keep trying to sell me the Dacor renaissance or thermador etc. Just trying to get some insight.

Not many people drive Vipers.

Ever drive a 500hp car?

Probably crash. If you are stupid.

Dealers will always try to sell you what they have in stock and makes the highest margin.

In stock itmes are like gorillas holding their cash. They have to get it back ASAP. Special ordering does them no favors.

My guess is a cooktop is a low margin item as well.

I have owned the 36" BlueStar drop-in cooktop since it first came on the market. It is far superior in both high heat and simmering capabilities to any other cooktop or range I have ever owned. If you are a good cook, you'll have many occasions to use and appreciate the superior performance of the BlueStar. I agree with the previous poster. The retail salesperson will have many reasons to buy(or not buy)a particular brand. Often, though, they may not be based on facts. Buy what will serve you best, according to your wants and needs.

I am considering upgrading drop-in cooktops from a 36" KitchenAide to a 36" BlueStar. Currently I have a 30" Jennair oven undermounted in a cutout below the cooktop that I'd like to rplace with either a 30" Miele MasterChef or a 28" Miele Masterchef and a Miele cup and plate warming drawer. I'm not sure what clearances are required for the proposed drop-in. Miele's website pdf looks like it requires 5" below the countertop. Input anyone?

Stick with the Thermador 14" or the less expensive (less features)14" Bosch. How long is your ductwork? You want the shortest run with a minimal amount turns. I have the 36" 14" Bosch with my 36" Miele induction cooktop with a 600cfm inline blower and have been pretty happy with it. I would recommend that anything you are doing which emits a lot of grease, you use the rear burners. My downdraft is catching nearly all (95%+ of what I can see) of the grease and vapor when I use the rear burners. The front burners are about 50/50. I still think this is preferable to a recirculating overhead hood.

I am really disappointed with BlueStar. When I ordered my cooktop on Nov. 27, 2007 the sales rep called BlueStar and the rep told her it would arrive in 2 weeks. I have her follow-up in late December and BlueStar tells her it will be ready in mid-January. This week (Jan. 16, 2008)I have her call to follow-up on the order. BlueStar tells her now the estimate is January 30th. She calls me today, and tells me that her manager heard that the unit isn't even UL listed yet and won't be ready until mid-March at the soonest. So, essentially BlueStar has strung me along and wasted my time when they should have known in the first place that the unit wouldn't be ready to ship for a long time. I also might add that the rep at BlueStar who was supposed to return my call about the status of the product and more information about its availability never returned my phone call. If my sales rep hadn't spoken to her manager about the product I might still be waiting for a January 31st delivery. I am now going to order a rangetop, as I don't think that I will find a cooktop that comes close to the BlueStar. Unfortunately, the company has provided me with such poor service I don't feel too comfortable buying a rangetop from them.

Well, after talking to Bluestar, i does seem that i AM missing a center support beam on the inside of the stove. Figured as much. They are supposed to send it to me so i can install it. Just wanted to let everyone who was interested know that i was in fact missing a piece.
