A thing I love about our U.S. National Parks is that, when they build things, whether a lodge, or a bridge railing, they use the same materials from the surrounding area, so it blends in perfectly and it's very natural. It doesn't stick out of its surrounding. That's my thing, if I wanna be out there with nature, I would want to keep all man-made things inconspicuous.

Going back to your bathroom. A large window out to the great vista is certainly one way. What's that green house design that stick out of the house a bit? Then there is the time I took a shower at the Old Faithful Inn in Yellow Stone. Wood paneling all around, like a sauna. Ooooooh My God, when I have $$$ I WILL do that.

Yes, bringing nature in. We're in Lake Tahoe, and have US Forest Service all around us, so that is what we're trying to do. For the shower, we're using:

Emser Forma smooth in "Argilla" - 1 full wall, and 1 row on adjacent wall
Emser Vecchia Corte in "Beige" - 3/4 of a wall, and 1 full wall
Emser Mixed Color Pebbles (on shower floor and a vertical stripe separating the other two tiles colors)

The bathroom floor will be Emser Forma textured in the same color. We've got open pine plank ceilings, which we'll be refinishing and sealing.

I'm having trouble with little touches, like wall color, towel bars, lighting, etc. Frustrating little details!

thanks so much for sharing. Is that wood ceiling above the shower/bath? how is that holding up? what kind of wood is it? Do you use it all year - or only on vacations. Please share details if you don't mind. I'm tore between a cedar ceiling for above shower or tile.

lakekristina, have you used Google to find lodgy-cabin type bathroom accessories? Also do Google Image searches for "cabin bathroom" "lodge bathroom" and "rustic bathroom" (including the quotes) Good luck :)

kiagarden-our cabin has pine tongue and groove everywhere except the floors. We have exhaust fans in the bathrooms and there has never been an issue with moisture.

kiagarden-- That one is also pine T&G above the tub. I WISH I could use it all year long ! It does get used year round, but by its owner. :-) I just installed the tile. The gentleman who owns it owns his own logging company up here, In fact, it's his company that clears most of the lots for the new construction that I work on.

You can see the date stamp on the pics is from about 5 years ago, and I can tell you-- this guy isn't shy. If there was a problem, I would've been called to redo the tile after he was done fixing the wood. So I think I can safely say it's still in good shape. :-)

That's Marge's bathroom!! That's her SECOND one. Did you ever see the first one she did with the bears and pine trees and travertine? Although this one was more impressive, I actually liked the first one better. :-) Meet..... DA BEARS! (the ORIGINAL bears!)

Keep in mind that while the pieces in the bears and canoe mural were cut with a diamond band saw (the same one I have) the bears and trees in the pics I'M showing you were all cut with grinder and wet saw. For a DIYer, this woman has incredible talent.

I still love the fishing bears and want to try something similar with a bear, pine trees(s), a stream and river-rock pebbles.

Maybe I could commission Marge...

I have a cabin built in the late 60s. The two upstairs bedrooms are knotty pine as well as a 6X7 bathroom. It has a small window, hot water heater, shower, toilet, and sink. We have considered moving the hot water heater to the lower level. The room is dark and small. I would like more light and to bring the outdoors indoors. I loved the bathrooms in Bali when we traveled there. Of course, that was the tropics and not the mountains of Idaho. Thank you for any ideas.
