Cleaning kitchen cabinets?
Comments (13)Lynn, I do not want to start a debate, but just to clarify. Hardwood floors are not finished with the same type of top-coat as cabinets or furniture. (very generally speaking, polyurethane vs conversion varnish) I would definately follow your flooring sales/installer recommendations. As for cabinets...the company I represent offers a lifetime warranty and recommends Murphy's Oil soap as a cleaner, followed by Guardsman polish. Of course the best advice I can offer is to refer back to your original use and care information, or call the designer/distributor you worked with....See Morehow to clean wood cabinets....?
Comments (19)If a cabinet has conversion varnish on it, I don't see how the wood can be adversely affected. Isn't it like putting polyurethane on a wood floor - the surface becomes a sheet of plastic that is relatively impermeable? Now I am not talking about Orange Glo Refinisher, which adds a glossy hard surface that cannot be removed - that would be bad. These products are made from oil and wax which certainly evaporate after a while and need to be reapplied on occasion. Many people think orange oil is good for wood and I think wax is a matter of preference. You know what's really bad for wood? Steam and water. I have learned this lesson from experience. I used to steam my hardwood floors until I noticed these little slivers of wood stuck into the steamer pad. I then realized that the steam process was softening the wood and pieces were breaking off. I have found that the best thing to use on hardwood floors is Bona hardwood floor cleaner applied with a dry mop. On my painted cabinets I use water and Dawn; on my walnut cabinets I mostly use Pledge (in the brown and yellow can). Don't know if that's good or bad but so far so good....See Morewhat to use to clean wood maple stained kitchen cabinets

Comments (3)On my painted cabinets I just use a sponge with mild dish detergent. The key is to wipe them down fairly frequently (I do the major part -- the lower reaches where grease, splatters and fingerprints hit -- weekly, the highest reaches monthly) so that grease and dirt doesn't build up and it is a quick, easy and gentle wipedown. I would do the same thing for stained, assuming they have some kind of poly topcoat, not wax or oil finished....See Moremyinterestinmoney
