LeCreuset cookware?

I have several big heavy pieces of LeCreuset cookware and I was told it is holds too much heat to use on an electric glass stove/cooktop. True or not?

I need to know ASAP because I need to know to move it or sell it.

Not. LC works on everything. I used it all the time on my old Kennie glass cooktop. You won't find it very responsive though, but that's because of the cooktop, not the pots.

The thing is that you have to set the pot down, not fling it or dump it. :)

I can't comment specifically on the Ikea brand of enameled cast iron, but if you're in the U.S., you can go to any store along the lines of Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, etc. and buy heavily discounted cookware from well-known and reviewed manufacturers. You could easily buy a name brand 5qt "Dutch" oven at my local Marshall's any day of the week for no more than $30-40. I haven't seen any Le Creuset there, but I have seen plenty of other respectable brands. I love Ikea, but I don't trust their quality enough to spend even $50 on something that should last 20+ years. If I wanted to pay retail (nothing wrong with it if you have specific color preferences or need something *right now*) and stick within that price range, I'd be looking at Lodge products.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. And how smart you are making this inquiry! You can't go wrong with All-Clad, but it's very pricey. IMHO, it's not worth the money. You can't go wrong with the private brands from either Costco or Sam's Club. My Sam's club set is tri-ply and does a beautiful job with whatever I'm cooking. The Costco set has a 5-ply bottome, but it doesn't go up the sides. Regardless, it has wonderful reviews. Go see the sets for yourself, paying particular attention to the weight and balance of the pans. Check out the prices for Le Creuset on Amazon. I have the 5- and 7 1/2 quart round Dutch ovens. (If I were to purchase them now, I would opt for the oval shape. It's more versatile.) Keep the heat down on the stove top and they'll serve you well for the rest of your life.

I have one piece in my collection; a 10" skillet, with disc bottom and helper handle. I'm not overjoyed with the handle, frankly, and depend on the helper handle a lot because there's not much to grab hold of on the main handle. But I've been spoiled by the Henckles handle design, so take that FWIW. The one real drawback is that it doesn't seem to heat evenly. All in all, though, I don't think I'd buy another piece in this line.

Unfortunately, the materials with the best heat capacity and heat conduction, two of the factors critical to good cookware performance, also are pretty heavy per unit volume. Alumnimum is light, but you need a thick slab of it to get the best performance and some people don't like bare or even anodized aluminum. You might consider switching to a good stainless clad Dutch Oven for much of your LC use, and also decide if you need fully clad sidewalls on all your pieces. A Sitram Profiserie or Paderno World Cuisine Grand Gourmet might fit the bill. Or, in the slightly heavier form, the Sitram Catering or Demeyere Atlantis casseroles with a copper disk based.

I used a 6-1/2 quart (made in france but sold at Costco) cast iron enamel coated pan yesterday.....induction glass cooktop...NO problems. Works amazingly well.

I have a Maytag Gemini electric smoothtop range that's at least 10 years old, and I use LeCreuset and Lodge cast iron all the time with no problems. It might be a problem if you put the burner on the highest setting and kept it there for a long time making the pan super hot, but you'd probably ruin your beautiful LC pan as well as your cooktop. I generally heat the pan up on medium high or high, but once it's hot turn it down a bit or sometimes more depending on what I'm cooking. These pans are some of my favorites, and I can't wait until I can use them on a good gas stove.
If I were you, I would keep them and use them. I should probably add that I do set them on my range fairly carefully due to their weight, but I would do that on any range or counter.
