Goodwill called my name....LOL

I tried. I really, really tried to not go in. I was so proud of myself this morning, for filling up 3 bags of stuff to take to Goodwill. And I told myself I was going to the back drop-off door and NOT even go around front and go in. Guess I didn't try hard enough, cause my mini-van just wheeled right up to the front door and stopped. I'm limping from yesterday's shopping, but that didn't seem to deter me either. LOL.

I NEVER see any transferware dishes at GW, but today they had this salad plate and of course since it

had horses, it had to come home with me! On back it says Liberty Blue Colonial Series, Staffordshire ironstone made in Eng. These are inexpensive on eBay, so I just saved on shipping buying it.

Since my husband's real home is the golf course, LOL (6 days a week since he's retired), when I spied this brand new sign that also had tag on back, it was a definite "Buy Me".

I was REALLY pleased to spy these Lenox Winter Greeting 8 inch plates on a back lower shelf. Tags still

on them too! I looked at them on eBay and they run around $13 each. I paid $3.

Then, you Enablers, I peeked in the linen depart at table-runners and placemats. All they had 'good' was a pair of brand new Thanksgiving mats. Nice woven ones, for $3.

Wow! You hit the jackpot! Love everything you got on your spree...you are too funny...a lot like me...I take stuff to GW all the time and swear I won't go in, but I can't help myself!

What a truly groovy vase! It looks totally awesome in the garden, man! Cool find, kirkus! You are da man! On another note ... do those aqua globes really work? I thought of buying some for the plants on my balcony but didn't want to bother if they didn't work for watering. jeannespines, instead of looking for round bottom bowls, start looking for those glass ceiling fixture shades for mushrooms. You know the dome shaped glass shades that you see all over in kitchens and bathrooms. If I had a yard, I would have a dozen mushrooms made with those! I have seem them at the Restore (Habitat for Humanity stores) and at TSs. I imagine they are probably sold at plenty of rummage sales too. I would mosaic the shades and the vase base.

Thank you all for your kindness and forgiveness. You truly are a special group of people, and I apologize for my offensive behavior. It was from pain and loss, but mostly anger because my brother was the sweetest, kindest soul you'd ever meet, and I was so mad that he had died. He got very few breaks in life, cerebral palsy was only the tip of the iceberg, and because of my anger I focused on the mistreatment he had endured, and I temporarily forgot how much he taught everyone he knew and how beautiful his life really was. His name was Joel. I am surprised to hear of the high prices so many of you have encountered. The key to success, I would think, is to keep inventory moving, and it distresses me that people are turned away/turned off because of high prices or that perfectly good donations are not accepted. I wonder how many of these agencies are tax exempt or have tax write-offs even if they are not employing the handicapped, providing low cost items to the poor, or using a good share of their profits to benefit the community. Ironically, I tried to go to my favorite Goodwill a couple of days ago (reasonable prices, great organization, friendly workers) only to find it was gone because it could no longer afford the rent. I have enjoyed lurking in this forum for a long time (only because I never seem to be able to complete a project so I can have something to post)and reading all of your creative and wonderful ideas. Your generosity is wonderful and your inspiration is endless. I can't seem to throw anything away because I am always thinking of you all and your amazing ability to see the potential in something. Ianna- That's my concern, too, but I think the different name will help. I'm out in the garden with them, when they visit...but why tell them they're peas? I'm going to tell them that all the vines on the arches are poisonous and only the ones on the trellises and bird obelisks are ones we can eat...and only when I'm with them. Hopefully, that will keep them out of too much trouble! Also, the arbors are in with the potatoes, tomatoes and other plants that they are NOT supposed to eat...and the carrots, lettuce, blueberries, strawberries are all over by the edible peas. I'm open to any other ideas, though! :)

From my experience, this country has a serious, extreme overload of clothes. It's everywhere, including Goodwill. There are also "high end Goodwills", and their site which has auctions on the most interesting items, much like E Bay. I saw the whole bulk of Roche Bobois floor models once..:) Don't shop there myself but not because I'm too noble or too high brow for that, no ideological reasons whatever they might be..I just find it overwhelming. As every (relatively) big store. We do donate a lot there. All my childhood and youth, 90% of my clothing were second hand. Same with my kids when they were little. Didn't make me incredibly happy at the time, but it did become a part of my culture. It's my normal. I also find it more conscientious, in many ways. So I do shop E Bay and thrift stores and what not. Some of my most cherished clothes come from E Bay. As much as I'm more fortunate now than I was in my youth-I wouldn't be able to afford them otherwise:) Now sometimes I'm a savvy person, but not always. It changes with circumstances and mood:) My husband is an extremely savvy person though. He knows every sale, he saves all the coupons, and all the minimum nice clothes he has-are there because I bought it for him and shoved down his throat lol. And sometimes he irritates me to no end, because it takes him twice as long as a normal person to buy food-different stores have different promotions..:) (He doesn't buy at Goodwill though-he prefers sale at Kohl's. And very rarely too)) But. Thanks to his irritating habits, we can donate much more than we would be able to. We can help when situation arises. My friend's mom could have her open heart surgery-because he saved the money. He didn't know neither my friend nor her mom. Another friend could buy a car, to get around and become more independent. An acquaintance could move to an apartment with her two little boys-instead of sleeping in the car, because she found herself in a horrible situation. And so on and so forth. I would never mention it if it was my smart savings and my generous help..I'd find it tacky to talk about myself. But it's not because of me we were able to do this. It's because of my irritating husband who refuses to wear nice clothes, unless he really wants to make me happy, once in a while:) Of course it's nice to be able to cover all the crazy medical and educational expenses for our own family too. And to be able to afford to visit our families that are literally everywhere but here lol. Back to clothes. My daughter left for college recently..took a bunch of stuff with her, enough to fill this IKEA armoire everyone has at her dorms. I wasn't very pleased with it-why would she need so much? Believe me I had 2 jeans 3 tops, when I started my high education..:) Not saying she should have the same, but a half of what she took would suffice. You know what all the other girls told her? -wow, amazing how you always manage to look so nice and put together when you have so little to wear! Full armoire of clothes(okay there are also towels bedding etc) is considered a tiny amount of clothes, by young girls just starting out in lives? That what sounds worrisome to me.

Love that Golf Sign..hope DH enjoys it...lol
Also those Lenox Plates...I've never seen anything like those at GW.

I got a kick out of the golf sign. Seems so appropriate.lol
I looove the Lenox plates. I spied them on Ebay when I was looking for a Christmas set of dishes but didn't buy any.
The little turkey placemats are adorable and I know you'll do something neat with them.

GREEN, GREEN, GREEN with envy.
The golf sign wouldn't work at my house because DH and I are both avid golfers, so I guess there aren't any normal people at my house. LOL

I've been looking at all the different patterns of Lenox Winter Greetings china on eBay. WOW, so many and beautiful. This pair I found is from the Tartan series. A goldfinch and a nuthatch are the other two birds featured.
Some of the other Lenox cardinal plates are just wonderful, but pricey with shipping added in. :o(

Slinkey, I never see any really neat plates at my GW, just normal every day type stuff. So this was really a treasure shopping day...and to think I almost didn't go in to shop!

Too funny, Candy. Guess that's one way to avoid becoming a golf widow..play yourself. I never learned, but all my time went to showing my dogs for over 35 yrs.

I've got several bags of things to take to the Humane Society Thrift Shop, now I've got to see how to NOT shop there too. LOL.
(guess more photos will be coming!)

The H.S.T.S. is my biggest weakness and I just know you won't be able to "not go in" anymore than I can so yes, I'll be expecting more photos forthcoming. *G*

Karen, what a fantastic day at GW. I would of bought everything you did if I was shopping and seen them. I need to get out and shop. But even more I need to get my garden planted and some other things done this weekend.

I think I need to consider moving to a town with more stores and people when I retire!!! There's nothing here and that's probably a good thing.

Thanks so much for showing me there's more to life than WORK!

Wow! I loved every single item you found, Karen. And I'm so happy for you that you found those birds plates especially since I know you have a "thing" for cardinals! Both of them are beautiful as is the blue plate. You know I saw on a blog where the gal had made a wall hanging out of a placemat and hung it on her door--so even if you don't do a table, I'm sure you'll be able to use that cute placemat. And the little golfer sign--well, let's just say it fits your household perfectly! ;o)

I have some plates in the Lenox Tartan series, and I paid a lot more than that! I am buying a few at a time at the outlet...

If you watch the sales at Belk or Dillards, you will find the Everyday Winter Greetings dishes, pretty reasonably. I got mine at Belk and paid about 40$ for 3 place settings.
All of your other things are great too!

Boy, Kathleen, you're right about finding bargains in the Lenox Tartan pattern. I'm trying to get a set of 12 of the big buffet plates, but there aren't any bargains at all. So I've started buying about one or two a year at the outlet - which is still very pricey.
