Appliance installation tomorrow: What should I watch for?

All of our appliances will be installed tomorrow. I'm wondering if you have any hints for us. We'll be there all day so we can keep an eye on things. I've read so many horror stories about bad installations -- I'd like to be able to avoid problems if I can!

One room -- the kitchenette in lower level walk-out -- has vinyl flooring. Should we cover it with cardboard or something to protect against rips?

Basically, all appliances except microwaves

Main kitchen -- refrigerator, free-standing range, dishwasher, beverage fridge

Kitchenette -- refrigerator, free-standing range, dishwasher

Laundry room -- washer & dryer

Microwave/oven combo installed in new build 2018. "F2" error message July of 2022, so whole unit out of commission. (Homebuilder has same unit, same outcome.) Jenn-air said right off the bat we'd have to wait a while for the replacement control board. Just had yet another contact with them, during which they insist there's been no recall over that part, but they still cannot provide that part (?) and would I like to put us on a list to go to an internal review board, for consideration of a pro-rated replacement unit. My 2 questions: why would we WANT another Jenn-air?? and if they can't cough up the part because of demand ... how is there NOT a recall? I asked if they couldn't "rob" a part off a set in inventory, and the tech acted like he didn't understand the question. So, here we are. Oh, yeah, and on my first contact, I gave them the model number and serial number, and they asked ME for the part #!! How would I know the damn part #???

You'll continue to obsess. And once it's installed, you'll fixate on little things you coulda/shoulda done differently. And you'll wonder why you didn't this and that. Eventually, your kitchen will be finished and you'll get on with your life which include COOKING in the kitchen, and the infinite decisions you made will be a thing of the past. It won't matter any more. Our kitchen is 2 weeks from completion and I've made plenty of peace with tons of things I thought would ruin it all. Everything is going to be just fine. I'm definitely watching. I've been rooting for John Rich since I knew he was going to be on. I don't like Marlee's attitude and ego at all!! I just hope she doesn't win, "just because." If she does win, it's very obviously favouritism as John brought the most money in, ever. I wonder why she doesn't talk, and needs a translater. The woman who starred in Sue Thomas FBI is deaf in real life, and the show is based on a real life deaf FBI agent. She talks all the time, as well as signs and reads lips. When Marlee does talk she's intelligible. The way she treats her translator is disgusting. She acts like he's far below her, even though he's obviously her life-line.

open box appliance - what should I check

Our Samsung induction range was a floor model/open box. We have the user manual with it (but you can usually download it if it's not there), but we did not get the roasting pan. ALso, make sure the correct number of racks are there. No regrets. We got a fabulous deal on it, even without the roasting pan. I really should order one if I want to cook the TG turkey on it. My sister got an open box DW and has had no problems with it, either. Again, fabulous deal, and no regrets. You do get the manufacturer warranty on it.

fridge: Icemaker/water dispenser? make sure it works.
dishwasher (maker?): it runs through a demo cycle (fills, washes, drains). No leaks.

washer: fill/wash/drain/spin. and it is level. Get the shipping bolts from the installers (FrontLoader) and put them in a bag.
Dryer: gets hot, blows all the way outside, as in go outside and check the exhaust.

Put down cardboard on you new floors. if doors are in the way, remove them.

Fridges: make sure they cool. That means plug them in, turn them on and let it run. Watch the icemaker fill. If you have time (and you may), let it go through an ice cycle.

check each item as it comes off the truck for scratches/dents.

Get ALL the manuals.

Often you have to let fridges stand overnight before turning them on. The movers will tell you if they cannot guarantee the fridge was so little shaken up that it can be plugged in right away. If not, take no risk and let the coolant settle.
