Source for Glass Subway Tile?

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking here for a while, quietly planning my bathroom, but now it's time to really start getting stuff! I want to do my shower walls in 3"x6" glass subway tiles, but am finding them pricey and I'm on a pretty tight budget. Does anyone have an inexpensive source? Also, is it insanity for a novice tiler to plan to do walls in glass tile? If it helps, I'll practice on the floor first (but with travertine/porcelain) :)

Good luck Miriam ... I looked all over for glass subwya tile like you are looking for and eventually changed my plan since it was so expensive.

I bought glass tile from Susan Jablon, and used it as a colored freature strip with white ceramic subway tile.

Worked really well.

I got glass subway tile online from modwalls.com. It was one of the cheaper sources I found. I don't think you're insane for considering tiling your bath.

I've decided my tiler is never going to find time to do our kitchen backsplash, for which I bought the glass subway tile plus some 4x4 and some mosaic from another source, Oceanside Glass, and I'm very close to deciding to do it myself. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm going to be following your lead, I guess.

It's inspiring how many people here do their own work and manage to come up with such beautiful results. Good luck.

kgwlisa, that's exactly what I was worried about - all those cut edges. If Bill V were my tile guy, I wouldn't hesitate, but... Anyway, I think we could afford to use that tile as a field tile, but that's a LOT of green - not sure I want to use that much of such a vibrant color. As for the idea of going modern in the bath, I've thought about it, but the rest of the apartment is definitely pre-war looking and I have no plans to renovate it anytime soon, if ever. There's something I love about period-feeling baths anyway, so I think we're going to stick with that (even if BF doesn't like the English-telephone-looking tub filler/handheld, LOL!). BTW, does anyone know anything about Elements of Design fixtures? They have a ton of really beautiful period fixtures but I'm concerned about buying crap... Here's a snapshot of some tile that I taped to the bathroom wall to try to get an idea of what my original wood-look floor/white subways/glass accent might look like: I know it's a terrible picture, and unfortunately the colors aren't really true, but I really like the blue-green tiles on the right with the faux wood and white (they're much bluer in real life). They look great with chrome fixtures, too. I think I'm going to go ahead with this color combo - I just need to decide whether to use the glass tiles in mini-subway size or 1x1s. I'm also going to browse a bit more this weekend to see if I can find something similar in a ceramic tile. Wish me luck!

Porcelin Arabesque tile or white glass subway tile pics?

Bee and a few others here have done beveled porcelain arabesque tile from Mission Stone and Tile. I placed an order for the same tile for my sister's house last month (40 feet of it!) and it was on-sale at the time so it made for an even better deal. I love the look of it and can't wait to see it installed. Thanks everyone. I redid the upstairs too, using different glass tile. And I just finished painting the walls turquoise to match one of the glass tiles, so I'll have to take pictures this weekend.

I'm actually glad the baths worked out the way they did. It is easier keeping the white subway tile clean, the glass tile takes a little more work. But since it's just an accent strip, it not too much of a bother.

And certainly MUCH cheaper! I did the kitchen and 2 baths at the same time, and spent plenty of money on other things. So the glass tile became an accent strip.

Pam, gorgeous shower. Can I ask if you've posted the info about the shower seat somewhere? I'd love to do that in ours rather than our idea of a fixed seat.

Hi cork2win,

I don't think anyone asked before about the seat. I don't have the exact website, but found this that is similar, and cheaper than waht I paid. I didn't want a teak seat in my white shower, so found this.

With one fused ankle, I use it all the time.
