OT- Can I whine just a bit??

Hello all~

Sorry I've been missing-in-action lately, but my DH and I have been renovating our kitchen. I am feeling a bit bummed because this has been a long project, but one we are very pleased with. However, I managed to tear the ligament between my ring and middle finger on my left hand about a month ago and now I'm in a hand splint and maybe a cast to come if this doesn't work and since I'm left handed...well, you get the picture. And, I've been battling the gout for the past month in both feet. OMG....what has happened to me?? The real whiny part is that I have not been able to decorate for anything since February with my house looking as though a bomb exploded in it. I missed Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and now Easter. My Enablers-r-Us gene is very sad about that! LOL I am so happy that all of you folks have been posting your beautiful holiday and spring decor...you have helped me not dwell on the lack of decorations in my own house.

There....I feel better now. Thanks for allowing me to sniffle and whine a bit. We're almost finished with the kitchen and I will post some pictures when we're done so you can see what we've been up to.

Well, if your kitchen turns out anything like the bathroom re-model you just did before this, it will be well worth the 'non-decorating' gene domination!!! And I'm sure your kitchen is a dream come true! Can't wait to see pics! After our floors remodeling I have put off the kitchen countertops & maybe taking down one cabinet to open up even more ...so I know your feelings first hand! Later it will happen.

My decor has been lacking lately because of all this wonderful weather!...so I'm outside alot...but today is cleaning day for Easter weekend (inside, ugh)

I'm glad you 'whined' as you stated... cause losing any mobility is just the pits! Hope it heals for you & that you will be able to use your left hand more soon! Happy Easter, Marlene. Jeanne S.

I'd say you have very good reason to whine a bit, Marlene. Never a good thing when we "hurt" and aren't able to do the things we'd like to be doing. Hope your hand heals quickly and the gout goes away soon. In the meantime, maybe you could use your need for recuperation as a way to just sit outdoors in the sunshine and enjoy the beauty of Spring. Will look forward to seeing your new reno of your kitchen. Hang in there. Luvs

You are all so wonderful, thank you for all your support, caring, and prayers. It truly does mean allot to us. I'll make sure to remember about "crying in the shower" and I'm taking Jeanne's little message to heart for sure. I didn't learn much new yesterday--but was very upset by the way the doctor presented information to me. I'm not ignorant and I've done some research--what I wanted was ways to cope with where we are now and suggestions on preparing for future changes and how best to help DH. What I got was a whispered "doom and gloom" dialoge which excluded my DH almost completely. Looking back, I should have stopped her asked for our copies of the papers and gone home and waited to discuss them with his regular doctor. On top of that, the paperwork was obviously a form already on her computer and used for other patients because one section says "her" repeatedly because she obviously forgot to change that part to "him". I guess I am naive to expect paperwork specifically prepared for DH. I hope the test results will be helpful to our doctor in some way, but right now I feel like they were a waste of our time! Oops! Sorry--guess I just needed to vent. I am learning as I go, but I now realize that my job is to care for and protect my DH in every way I can----even if it is from rude, inconsiderate specialists! Enough said--on with the fun decorating that I love. We'd better hurry, Valentine's will soon be here! Thanks for your caring and comforting words everyone, thanks for being there during my "meltdown". Today is a new day and "what doesn't kill us just makes us stronger", right? Luvs

Lowspark - I love your widget. You have such lovely taste, You really do. However - just a tiny thought here (I have done a lot of decorating for my friends): Your widget placement bothers me. Could you possibly move your stove to the opposite wall? I'm thinking that the refrigerator which is currently there would look better closer to the sink anyway. Of course you'd have to remove the upper cabinet, but as you've said in another thread, the cab in your guest bath does need changing out. Then you could position your darling table against the empty wall. I'm wondering if the table should be pink, though. Could you repaint it? A cream paint with crackle-glaze would look lovely. Do you see where I'm going here? You could also repaint that wall - in a rich red, for contrast. Just thinking out loud here. Place the table against the wall, put your sweet widget on it, and that widget is going to pop! Then you wouldn't need so many hoo hoos, although I'd keep all the ding dongs. I don't suppose you'd change out your kitchen hardware to match the ORB of the widget, would you? Simply trying to be helpful (I am a decorator, of sorts). My rabbi agrees that if a widget is glass, it can definitely be kashered for Passover. But - not trying to be irritating - if the widget has plastic, it's never going to be kosher and also, it was made by DuPont, and we all know about them.

Storklady, It is okay to raise the price of something once it's listed. A Seller can change the price as often as they want, with no time restrictions. Etsy does not control or dictate to us what something is priced at - we do. There is no bidding on Etsy, except in Alchemy, which is a site on Etsy where customers can list something they want, a purple tutu, for example, and ask other Etsians to bid on what they would charge to make the purple tutu. Then Sellers are bidding against each other for that particular sale. Etsy is a "buy it now at this price" business. But I still think it's poor ethics not to honor the original price of an item that a potential buyer has just inquired about. Especially one who was asked to wait to review more listings of similar items because she'd shown interest in those other items before making her final purchase. If it had been me, I'd have sold you that map, and all the other newly listed maps that you were waiting for, at the original price. But that's just me. I am not an aggressive saleswoman, just a conscientious one. I like repeat business, and that's no way to encourage repeat business, IMHO.

Smart phones are often dumber than "dumb phones". And need far less expensive doo dads to keep them from breaking at the slightest thing. Also, think I may have looked at the wrong plant. Is this similar to Alaska II? It was a grocery store plant, no label or ID. My Hoya addiction takes up most of my grow space, so if they are similar maybe I will pass after all so some other lucky grower can have those leaves instead. :) This poor plant... I left it in that awful peat too long, and kept going through phases of wilting and perking back up that made the leaves look sort of mottled. When I repotted I ended up doing a root prune and took off all the icky leaves. It is coming back nicely, this picture was recent. Hopefully next time it blooms there will be more flowers.

As far as not being able to join in all the holdiay
decorating ...I'm right there with you. You're right though, it's nice to
be able to enjoy all the wonderful decorating everyone is
doing here.

Whine away!! This is such a great place to get support with all the caring people on this forum. It really does help to share what you are feeling and let off steam.

Looking forward to seeing your beautiful kitchen pix when you are done.

So sorry to hear about your torn ligament, I hope it heals quickly. Can you take something for your gout? I've heard it is incredibly painful.

Maybe just enjoy sitting down and reading a good book since you aren't able to decorate?? Especially if you could go outside on a nice day with a glass of cold tea or lemonade and just enjoy Mother Nature's decorating.

Thanks for the encouragement and for letting me whine. I get so frustrated sometimes when it seems like it's one thing after another and I can't seem to stop hurting and doing things that hurt me. I am a major klutz, so that doesn't help a lot either. Anyway, thanks again for the support! You ladies are great!

Good Grief...I think you should whine a LOT. One hand, two feet, not getting to decorate, and a "bombed out" house? Nothing like piling it all on at once! Spring isn't blooming at your house, its an avalanche!

I hope you can manage to enjoy Easter, and at least not be in a load of pain during it.

I know your new kitchen will be awesome and I can't wait to see the photos.

Marlene, glad to hear the others were here for you when you needed a shoulder. Sorry I missed this post and wasn't here for support too.

I'm so excited to see your new kitchen. I loved your bath. With a torn ligament and gout in both feet it must be so tough knowing what you want/need to do.
