Faux Wood beams in Kitchen

I saw an article talking about an alternative to exposed wood beams in the kitchen. The article mentioned using faux wood beams made of styrofoam. Has anyone used one of these products and if so, does anyone have any pictures they can share or any suggestions of products to use or avoid?

I saw a faux beam in an HGTV show and it looked fantastic. You could not tell the difference and it was very easy to install because it weighs almost nothing. You can also see pictures in Google-images if you search for "faux beam kitchen".

I am considering using faux beams for my home's ceiling. Any suggestions on what kind of faux beams should be used?

Faux beams on 8' ceilings will give a very '70's feeling to the nice open space. I agree with Sophie, cased openings might be a better way to add some architectural detail.

My guess is that it's real wood, but not structural. That's a super long span, for any location, with or without snow loading. Another clue is that one of the trusses lands on top of a window, which glass tends to not be structurally load bearing. However, those trusses could be load bearing, and there could be a steel header over the windows, but my guess is that's not the case. This would bother the hell out of me. A real beam at the ridge of the ceiling would need proper support beneath it at certain points to carry its load and all the load it carries. The thin mullion between the narrow windows looks visually like it is not large enough to carry the load above. Even the other mullions are questionable. Check the construction drawings to see if it was built wrong or if it was designed wrong. The way it is in the picture is just another clue that the beam is fake.
