Doll Baby Spring Setting

Warmer weather & sunshine...both ingredients to pamper Spring fever! So, started on putting "winter" (ugh) stuff away...and worked on a couple things today plus got some shopping in also!

Remember my doll baby ...here's Christmas & Valentine settings I posted previously:

Here's Doll Baby all ready for Spring:

Her Spring outfit I got just a few wks ago at a consignment shop...$3 for this smocked Friemanit 100% cotton...made in Phillippines. The colors so perfect for Spring & the hat just darling.

Here's a closer look:

I used a green depression plate, a crocheted doily & one of those white bowls I showed you recently from TS...& little dotted eggs for lunch! The choc bunny (GW find) is a candle & the flowered terra cotta pot (GS find) last summer.

But look at this smocking...this would take me forever if I did it!

Last view.... from side angle...the white bunny was a b'day gift from a friend several yrs ago..Boyd Bear angel.

Also worked on new glass cake stand arrangement...motivated by you cloche decorators! It's lookin' pretty good but will wait to share with some other Spring decor. Thanks for lookin'! Jeanne S.

I fell in love with your Doll Baby (does she have a name?) the very first time you showed her. And her being dressed for different holidays and seasons is so delightful. This new outfit is just darling and so perfect for Spring and Easter.

Oh, I agree that smocking is really amazing! I wouldn't have the patience for it! Very nice spring colors and overall look. Please make sure your adorable dolly doesn't eat all that candy at once, she'll have a tummy ache! ;-D

I've also bot baby clothes for dolls at the thrift for my DD and DGD's over the years as I don't like sewing fiddly little things. Lots of cute things there altho I think your smocked outfit is the nicest I've seen in a long time. I have 3 dolls I made altho consider them GDs' toys and haven't used them in displays. Maybe I should altho all I need is more 'stuff' to play with in displays! LOL

Welcome to the forum, Kristen! New leaves at this time of year is perfectly normal. The bulbs are still in their active growing mode until fall, storing food for next spring's blooms. Spring is the normal blooming time for these bulbs, however they traditionally are made available for Christmas blooms by growers who harvest early and keep the stored in a forced dormancy, which is very hard on a bulb. To help the bulb build up its strength, remember to use a weak water-soluble fertilizer with each watering. And remember amaryllis prefer to be on the dry side, to avoid rot issues. Most amaryllis are evergreen. They only require about 8-10 weeks at 55 degrees in winter, in order to bloom again in spring. During that time, their growth will mostly stop, but their leaves won't fade. I'm sure there are experts on here who can advise you if you wish to force your bulbs into blooming for Christmas. But please note, most household refrigerators are too cold for storage of amaryllis bulbs. (Recommended temperature is 41 degrees.) As for the baby bulblets, I believe you'll want to leave them attached to mama until they actually have their own roots. A good reference book to look for at your local library is Veronica M. Read's "Hippeastrum the Gardener's Amaryllis". Lots of great information there to help you understand the needs of your bulbs. Best of luck!! Phoenix Ryan

May or June will be perfect timing... I won't have any other bulbs in bloom indoors, so it will be nice to have that one flowering! I would assume it's like any other hippi bulb, in that it can be forced if given a dormancy/cold period... it will be interesting to see if yours blooms for you after a cold spell! I'm sure it will, though... it's really quite a pretty flower, and I can't wait to see it in bloom! I just checked, and Fanfare is opening this morning! It's going to be a stunner! I'll get pictures posted as soon as I can! I also notice that the bulb I bought as Apple Blossom from Miejer's this year is another Minerva!! Darn it, anyway!! That makes like 5 Minervas I have, and no White Dazzlers, and one less Apple Blossom!! Nuts! What the heck is with all these mis-labeled and mis-boxed bulbs, anyway??!! I'm so sick of waiting for a particular color/variety, and then have it open another Minerva! Not that I don't like Minerva, but how many Minervas does a person need??!! Unless... this is some weird message from my bulldog from beyond the grave... it's very strange to have all these bulbs opening as Minervas...

bitsya Okay, the zone is very helpful! It HAS been an early spring this year. In this area, we haven't had frost for more than 30 days, and I suspect that was it for this spring. Maybe it's balancing out for last spring when it was so cold and wet. I don't have any tomatoes on my plants but I do have some blossoms about ready to open on three of the eleven I've set out. None of the plants are a mature size. And I still have eight more to plant when they're larger, plus a sucker for a second Goose Creek plant when it develops. Maybe those of us who planted early in this area have been lucky with the weather. At any rate, as you intend to do, I suppose I'd remove some of those babies and leave some to see if it makes a difference in the plant health. Thanks for all kind comments & good wishes...I am getting better...tomorrow will be day 7 of the antivirus med & dr gave me 3 wks worth of pain meds...the way I understand this "shingles" stuff is that when splotches/blisters heal up that you still have nerve pain for awhile. Well, it is so much better & I thank you for your caring words. My dr.'s won't give me the shot as I have a weird chronic disease & don't know what triggers it...so they would rather not (which is ok by me)...but hoping no more shingles! Quite painful...I thought I had muscle/shoulder blade problems from too much fun outside gardening! LOL! Not talking to Babydoll now...so don't worry about that issue either. Love finding her dishes for the seasons! My Mother would be proud that I am dressing & playing with my inheritance doll! :-) Happy Memorial Day! Jeanne S.

Thanks, purplemoon & luckygal...no, she doesn't have a name...I just call her "Babydoll"...you're good at naming, PM, I remember lynn's brass deer being named "India." Got a good one for Babydoll???

LG...no candy...those are dotted eggs are painted wood...had them for some time...cute little ones! Hope you do decide to play with your dolls! I said before I am not a doll person...but you all got me going with this holiday inspiration stuff! LOL!!! I emailed my SisInLaw & told her I would never make fun of her dressing her 2 fur-babies! LOL! Anywho, thanks for the comments! Think spring (and I am totally jealous that you are gardening, LG!)...and PM...that it's 70 deg. Ugh! Jeanne S.

What a sweet little dress. I love the smocking and that cute little bonnet. This is such a sweet idea having her in the little chair--and being able to change out her outfits and dishes for the seasons is just the icing on the cake! Luvs

Your little "Babycakes" (that's what DGD would call her) makes me smile every time I see her. Her new outfit is darling. Will she be in on the baby shower for Mo?

What size clothes does she wear? I would love to see if I could find some to send you if I have some of DGD out in the shed. I plan to donate them so would love to send some your way too. You always dress her so cute.

Your little Boyd Bear angel and dolie with bowl of eggs is so cute with her. Love the spoon like she's ready to dig in!

OA...the high chair I got at an auction many yrs. ago (for visiting G'kids) & refinished it...on the floor below it is an old "booster seat" I also got at an auction (those g'kids grew up on me!) LOL!

punk, "Babycakes!" & luvs, "icing on the cake!" LOL! And I must say, "no, thank you, on the baby clothes." I think my DH would think I'd lost it if I start getting pkgs. in the mail with baby clothes to dress a doll! LOL! But, thank U for the offer...please donate them. My space is limited also.

Am loving seeing SPRING on this forum & St. Paddy's vignettes! ...Jeanne S.

oh now I have to dress mine. I have a real cute black baby with the sweetest curls. I have her in a gown and covered up on my chair. No name until I was given a pillow and put it next to her. It says Do Not Mess with Texas...so now she is called Texas. LOL. Luv Yours.

Jeanne, no problem and I will donate the clothes. DGD had an Apple Bottoms outfit yesterday and it was so blingy she looked like a doll herself. One of my friends couldn't get over how well she is always dressed. I told her that's what happens when a family only has one little girl in it.

Jeannie, I always enjoy the baby doll and her changes. I would call her Holli, short for Holiday forum. That smocking is so pretty. I used to smock a good bit, way back when, as a matter of fact, I just put out some eggs that I had smocked. That dish of eggs is just darling. It looks so springy, and let me tell you Spring is calling my name. I spent the whole weekend in the yard.

Jeannie - Is the doll your GD's? Perhaps she should name her? Do you keep her out all of the time? That's so nice of you to do that for your grandchildren. They really must enjoy you changing her for the different holidays!
