GE Advantium
Comments (40)lindso, are you looking at the wall oven or the over the range? The models have changed since these posts. The current wall oven version (more expensive) says minimum of about 37 inches from floor to bottom; I'm guessing that height is so a person can read the settings and wouldn't hit your arm on the top getting something out (no racks like a regular oven. The OTR version says minimum of 66 inches from top to floor; I', guessing this is so there is a minimum of 15" between the range and oven. I have the OTR version which is installed over the range at about 78" top from the floor. The height is ok for use, but I don't find there is enough room between it and the gas range top (about 16" from the grill). It's really not a problem but I was used to having a lot more with my old fan. My exhaust fan is recirculating; the house does not have an outside vent. On the Advantium, you just change the vent direction so it vents to the front. For my new house, I'm planning to move the Advantium oven to over a counter. I won't be using it as a exhaust fan. I don't see why that would be a problem; it will still have basically the same amount, and will probably lower it about 2" bo be a little better height for me. Visually, it will kind of look like those kitchens where the microwave sits in a cabinet, although I won't have a bottom so the Advantium can still draw any air it needs from the bottom. Is this what you were talking about?...See MoreWall Advantium 240 vs OTR Advantium 240
Comments (17)I have an Advantium 240v wall oven, and have used the over-the-cooktop version too. The oven interiors are NOT identical. Far from it - the wall-oven version has a much deeper interior, about 4" or so deeper than the over-the-cooktop model. That's because the wall oven fits into a cabinet that's 24" deep, whereas the over-the-cooktop oven has to fit in-between 12" deep cabinets without sticking out too far. Common items like a pizza box won't fit into the OTC Advantium, which was the main reason I wanted the wall-oven version. On the minus side, the wall oven has only one rather than two racks above the turntable (the 120v Advantium wall oven doesn't even have one rack, just a riser that fits on the turntable), and the black and stainless-steel over-the-cooktop Advantiums (the 240v models anyway, not sure about the 120v) have an illuminated button panel that I don't think the wall ovens have. As far as how they cook, both wall oven and OTC cook about the same....See MoreMixing wall oven brands - which combo looks best?
Comments (3)Don't worry so much about the handles matching as getting the best appliances you can afford in each category. The two wall ovens should try to look similar though due to proximity. What outlet are yu finding deals like this?...See MoreDrawer under Advantium oven
Comments (7)Hi -- I have a plllog-recommended shallow sub-drawer. There was room even for a second drawer below my undercounter miele. My counters are 37" and toekicks 3.5" so there was a little more drawer space than some may have. This is an old picture from just post-installation (one drawer front is missing and there seems still to be newspaper around the pyrex): I agree having the drawer underneath means you can't so easily get into the drawer when the oven is open. However you learn quickly enough to work/plan around it. And I don't find I need the drawer's tray contents all that often. I tend to leave the glass tray in always and occasionally add the metal tray. But in that narrow drawer I also keep hot pads which I use all the time. As well as cookie sheets that fit the interior of the oven and the manual. It's nice to have it all very nearby and dedicated. And while you have to do some opening and closing and swapping around, you don't have to move to accomplish any of this so the tradeoff seems fine to me. Underneath the designated-narrow-speed-oven-drawer is a slightly deeper drawer that has lots of glass containers suitable for microwaving. I find I use this most often and again, it's nice having it all located right there....See Morelbny_rob
