The 'Hands' that surprised my DD

Well, after seeing Jeanne's suggestion about the great wording from Dr Seuss for my DDGs feet photo, I went and edited that into my picture. Then printed it, and their hands one, out last night. Today I went to Michaels to get mats and frames. I love the frames I found, black but with traces of a brown tint. I framed the hands one I favored, from behind the girls, but printed out the other as well so my DD could choose.

Boy was she ever surprised when she saw these!! The look, and smile, on her face was PRICELESS! (Thank you again, OA!) She liked both hands photos and took the 2nd one with her, said she might frame it for her office.

Something about this "inspiration" project kind of tickled me when I stopped to think about ALL of it....

Jeanne inspires OA to make Hands artwork. OA inspires me to make one of my DGDs. My 9 yr old DGD was 'inspired' by me taking the hands pictures to ask me to take their feet too. I showed it to all of you, and you inspired me to do up both sets of photos. Then JEANNE comes up with the Dr Seuss

saying for the Feet picture.

Sort of all came full circle didn't it?!!

I told my DD how all of you had a "hand" in this. LOL

She loved the story.

Nice selection Karen...The framing/matting and wording work beautifully together.

One of the neatest things I ever did when I was big into genealogy was answer a question on our county's historical website to an inquiry from a woman seeking information on one of her direct ancestors, giving her information she may never have gleaned in any other way but by an antique quilt passed down through her family. It was a signature quilt, and all the signatures on it were legible and she knew it was somewhere in or near our county. She wanted to know where and when so she could place their location for her research. I recognized my third great grandfather's sister's signature on one of the blocks. I then did a quick search on the other signatures and verified what I thought that quilt was and it was a habit for women of a church to make a signature quilt and give it to a departing member. I knew when my ancestor's sister lived there (narrow time frame) so was able to date the age of the quilt, what church her ancestor belonged to and when they left that village on their way west. Priceless. BTW it would have been circa 1840s.

I am STILL grinning from ear to ear over this! I called my mother each time I got an update from kswl, and I took Friday off to go to southern Maine with Mum to (you guessed it) picked up some CL chairs! She was here in my office with me when we saw the emails with pics coming in, and it was quite a thrill. We had a wonderful lunch outside on the patio at Stonewall Kitchen's Cafe in York, ME. Who knew that over a month ago, one of the chairs I saw and wanted was owned by an artist, who is also a cat rescuer! I was looking for his phone number online and found this article, which made the front page of the local area newspaper when it happened. Brad still has that cat named 'Banks' and 5 others. He is looking for homes for 3 of them, but potential adopters will be carefully vetted. Brad sent me home with a chair that I hadn't planned on buying as well as the one he'd been holding for me. Both were from his grandparent's home. He asked for pictures when they are done, as did the nice man in Gray, ME where I bought the two that I am doing for Chibimimi. Lazygardens, I don't sell on Etsy, or anywhere else, other than the Mustard House in Buxton, and anyone who happens to see and want something they've seen. Pam, the owner of the Mustard House, wants me to do this antique French sofa she bought. I've looked everywhere and have not seen one like it, with those built-in arms on each end. Researching shipping these to GA was interesting, and the rates from FedEx and UPS shocked me. Incredibly high in my opinion. Being an eBay fan, I have seen many auctions that offer Greyhound shipping at a reasonable fee, so I researched that, and it was 1/6 of the highest price, which was from UPS. The buyer does have to pick them up at a Greyhound station, but the savings were HUGE! The size of these at 44" high made them too big to go USPS, as the 'horse stool' to MA did. Susan- that was great. It's obvious you have mastered the art of time management (52 hours in a day!) and yet somehow you still manage to look so fresh and lovely. Do you wear a housedress and a strand of pearls a la June Clever? Happy Mother's Day to an American icon. P.S. Let us know how George Clooney likes your lasagna recipe.

I don't grow 'Pink Surprise' but I DO grow the less-known 'White Surprise' which is a sister seedling. My soil and water are INCREDIBLY alkaline, but 'White Surprise' is not troubled by that -- something for which I must credit its bracteata heritage. It is INCREDIBLY prickly (certainly no surprise, given its heritage). It's a great bloomer, and I find the big, white single blooms incredibly lovely. It's completely disease-free here. My only caution . . . place it where it has lots of room, and where you don't have to be too intimate with it.

Now, doesn't that just "tickle your toes!" (ohhh, I guess that's "bones!") Love 'em, love 'em! Very nice choice of frames, matts & the pics look great! What a super job, purplemoon!...nice to have had a "hand" in this! Tee hee! And I just love the little sun-tanned toes! TFS & hugs to ya! Jeanne S.

They just turned out perfect!
The framing sets them off so beautifully.
I'm sure your DD will love these for a long time.
I still have the plaster hand cast displayed that my youngest DD made in Kindergarten.
It freezes that age in time to look back on and reflect how cute and innocent they were.

I also like the sibling sayings " I smile because you are my sister, I laugh because there is nothing you can do about it!" LOL

This is a great early Mother's Day gift!!

I just don't have enough superlatives to describe it!

I love the photo, it is so perfect. The background of the brick patio is just so artistic! And your frames are wonderfully suited. I'll bet you inspire a lot of other people, too!

Mags, have to thank OA for the idea of the brick patio background. That was something I really loved in her picture, and luckily my DD has a brick patio.

I'm so happy that all of you really like these too.
Especially the feet! I think it makes a really cute pair of prints. I told my DGD that her idea for me to take a photo of them was a REALLY good one! (those two girls are always painting their toes and wearing sandals or flip flops, or going barefoot.)

I hope to see some of you play with this idea too.

I am lurking from the decorating forum. It has been awhile since I have posted here. I love your idea- the photos are priceless! Just curious Karen, how did you print the Dr. Seuss phrase on the mat?

Karen....your pictures turned out beautifully! I know that your daughter will treasure them forever. Such a great idea all around...I may have to come up with something of my own. Been looking through and printing a lot of old family photos for a family tree album. I may have to start looking at the hands of my mother, grandmother, etc.

Karen...your post here just reminded me of this pic I fixed up when one of our GS's was born a few yrs ago...G'pa (DH) had just met the little guy & they were sitting on the couch & I snapped this shot...I had it printed & framed for the baby's room. Blessings! Jeanne S.

I cropped the "hands" & then inserted full pic in the corner & changed that "saying" a bit.

Jeanne, that photo is absolutely wonderful. I love the tiny hand holding on to Grandpa's finger. What a wonderful keepsake photo.

Gracie, I used the Photobucket tools to edit my photo. You can add text in any color, font, etc. I am still learning all the neat stuff on PB but its pretty easy if
you follow directions. And when you save something you've done, save it as a copy so the original stays there if needed.
